I would like to see ONE CASE and I mean ONE, when a team, that is 2 behind, with 60 seconds to go, plays empty net on the 2 goal lead, and catches up.
I say it has never happened and playing empty net 5x5 with 60 to go is the most idiotic decision that simply shows the retardation of the so called "coach" profession.

wont happen Zee... to easy for a empty netter to go in for the other team..Heck my Junior kids hockey teams I coach can make a empty netter easy ...I would imagine NHL players is MUCH easier

Dante, my point was that not only it won't happen, but it's not statistically backed historically wise. If we look @ last minute comebacks(assuming we could get to such stats), we'll see more last minute comebacks when they played 5x5 2 down, than when they played 6x5, 2 down.
It's simply bad coaching. It screams: "I give up, humiliate me.

I can remember an LA Kings playoff game about 8 or so years ago where they scored 3 goals or something like that with a man pulled, 6x5.

Pretty sure it was a playoff game. I'll have to ask my friend who can probably remember the details. My memory is poor at best.

Not sure if that's the game or not. Could be. I'll check this weekend to see if he can remember.

either way...

it is definatly MORE LIKELY that they come back with the goalie pulled than without the goalie pulled....

THUS,

puling the goalie is not a STUPID move but rather a smart one....

giving up!!!! Now that would be a STUPID move (IMO)

I am sorry for using the "R" word - and NOTHING EL

That's the one I can find where they come from 3 behind:

Definately not applicable to our situation, if it's the same. We're talking 60 seconds 2 goals comebacks. I'm trying to find out how many there are, think Edmonton had something like that earlier in the year?

i was thinking of that game, too - they call it "The Stunner @ Staples" - i know on 1 of those last 2 goals they had a PP and thus had a 6-4 advatnage - andy murray isn't scared to pull his goalie early

i recall sometime ago - 20-ish years maybe - the kings hosted someone - i wanna say Philly and trailed by 2 with about 90 seconds left - they pulled the goalie - scored a goal - then scored ANOTHER one w/o a goalie and then with just a few seconds left in the game a Kings guy shot the puck from center ice - it hit the skate of the Flyers defenseman - changed directions in a wild and weird way and beat a STUNNED Ron Hextall and when the goal was scored there was like 0.5 seconds left in the game

i can think of 1 other game - one that will "live in infamy" here. last game of the season - the season BEFORE they went on strike

Kings @ San Jose and leading 3-1 w/about 90 sec left. Robitaille gets a penalty so SJ pulls the goalie and scores w/20 sec left to make it 3-2. they keep the goalie out and SCORE AGAIN w/3 sec left. this was BEFORE the shootout and i had Kings +.5/+140 for the game

sure enough Vinny Damphousse scores a few minutes into OT to win 4-3 and hand me one of the MOST BRUTAL losses i have ever had. here i was 20 sec from cashing my ticket - and then it turned into confetti

I was at that game; the most unbelievable thing I've seen. I remember one of the Kings scored his first ever NHL goal during the game; talk about a great night going sour.

Detroit was down two at the start of the year against Chicago with less then "two" no one minute left Detroit pulled the goalie and scored 2 goals in 90 seconds to tie it up and send it to overtime.
