What about Roy Williams, incredible season at UNC, yes its Carolina and he gets the players, all america's etc...

they lost 4 players to the NBA, 4 freshman go into Duke and beat their senior laden team on senior night!

UNC is now looking like a potential great 8 team and maybe more...if Carolina somehow gets back to the Final Four or wins it!?!?!?!

even with the loss of last years players, i never understood why unc was expected to be so down this year. they dont recruit, they reload. most every player that joins the program is a mcdonalds all american. so i am not surprised with the teams success this season......and this just in, roy can coach!

should be BRUCE PEARL for all the turnarounds he's having at TENNESSEE!!.

Attendence is top 3 in the nation
Attendence up over 6,000 from last year
This is TENNESSEE basketball we are talking about
Picked 5th in their SEC division and have won it outright
21-6 record
#4 RPI
at TENNESSEE!

Carolina wasn't expected to do anything! certainly not predicted to finish anywhere near the top of the ACC, more like the middle to the bottom...I expect Carolina to be no less than a #3 seed and maybe a #2.

same with Tennessee...as i stated, predicting 2nd to last in the SEC east. Anybody would predict North Carolina to have a better year than TN. It's N.C., it's not like Roy Williams doesn't have all americans to work with. He has the top freshman in the nation.

KARL HOBBS at George Washington deserves some serious consideration.

For me, it has to be Bruce Pearl. Another name people haven't mentioned is J Thompson III at Georgetown. Not a winner, but in the mix.

Another less publicized coach doing a great job this year is John Giannini at LaSalle. However, Bruce Pearl has to win this award.

Did not realize Giannini was at LaSalle. Thought he was still up in Maine...he is very solid coach. Built a championship team at Rowan in Division III. Has a doctorate degree from U of Illinois and was on cheating coach Lou Henson's staff. Very good coach...will be at a major program in the coming years.

To have LaSalle going 18-9 is pretty impressive. I am also shocked Jay Wright gets no publicity. #4 team in the country without his best big guy all year in Sumpter and hardly having Fraser at all. And to think St Johns hired Mike Jarvis over Jay Wright.

I'm not trying to knock the great year LaSalle has had but they haven't even 1 quality win all year ! Name the top 25 team they have beat ? They played Nova early and lost 98-57 ! Yiks Roy Williams has taken a team that lost his top 7 scorers from last year and taken them into the top 10 ! Nice job !

1.Bruce Pearl..miracle worker..team has limited talent..limited Defense.
2.Karl Hobbs..1 loss season with limited scorers/unbeaten in Conf..uber-athletecism.
3.Jay Wright..4 Guard lineup near top in the Big East?..incredible..no Sumpter
4.Thad Matta..Sleeper..wait 'til he is playing with all his recruits.
5.John Brady..8 deep..3 Frosh lineup..1 Sr..lost PG for season.
6.Roy Williams..working wonders w/Diaper Dandies..jelling late.
7.Mark Few..despite POTY candidate, hype, easy schedule, are winning w/overrated talent.
8.Calipari..Damn near unbeaten year..with mix of great talent..defensively too lax.

Sad but true, though there are many more deserving candidates, the spoils of COTY usually go to those whom either win a vast majority of their games, or pull incredible turnarounds with past losing talent still intact, or win National Titles.

Plenty of solid jobs done by Big East, MVC, and MAC Head Coaches this year.

I'm not comparing LaSalle vs UNC. I don't care who they've beaten. I have seen them play several times this year and besides Steven Smith, they are not very good. A coach's job is to get the most out of their talent. Lasalle has won 18 games with one good player. Williams has done a very good job at UNC this year. He's Roy Willams and supposed to do this. But lets not forget he is still playing some very highly recruited guys in his lineup. I still believe Pearl is the hands down winner of this award.

UNC didn't just lose 4 NBA players, they lost their top 7 scorers. They leading returner scored like 2.8 points a game last year. HELLOOOO!? Roy Williams.
