Looking to buy a Treo 650 this week. I have Cingular and do not want to change to another carrier.

Any suggestions on how to get the best deal and what I can expect with activation fees (if any) or any helpful hints would be much appreciated? Where to go ect...Should I just go to the local retail store or buy online? Don't know where to start.

Thanks.

shouldn't be any activation fees since you are already with cingular. you just take out your sim card of your old phone and place it in your new phone.

only new customers get the "best" deal. phone companies give more discounts to lure a new customer. with some carriers, verizon and sprint for example, every two years you get a discount on a new phone if you sign a new 2 yr. agreement.

since your upgrading your phone and not signing up for new service, i would go in person to a company owned store.

Check the Cingular site often. sometimes they have Refurbished 650's for 150$

The key for how much the phone will cost you is how much you have left on your Cingular agreement. Most people start off with a 2 year deal. If you're within 6-12 months of the end of your contract, you'll normally be allowed to upgrade your phone at the same discount that a new subscriber would.

I had just gotten a Cingular phone when I got my Treo, so I was not eligible for an "upgrade". I added a line for $9.99 and gave my old cell to my teenager who was begging for one. I signed a new agreement for the new Treo number and got a decent deal on the phone. The unlimited data plan is only $30 or $40 bucks. We pool minutes, but I had about 9 zillion rollover minutes that I'll probably never burn through, so I know I won't have any overages.
