For those that don't know, I went to LMU. Since I left, they have suffered through basketball misery. I had no money on the game, but it was the most intensely watched game by me in 17 years.
I still remember sitting outside Gersten Pavilion on Hank's bench many a year promising him we'd get back to the tournament one day.
I thought that day would come tonight, but I guess we'll have to try again.

Definitely had everything against them, but they couldn't have asked for a better scenario. Last possession, chance to win and dance. I feel bad for the kid who blew the shot, he was thinking about if time would run out whether to dunk or off the glass and just rushed it and lost it.

For a team with a losing record, they played their balls off in a place that no one had won all year. I can only imagine had badly that one hurt.

I feel your pain. While I did not attend LMU, I am very close to the situation, dating back to Hank,Bo, Fryer, Stumer, and Peabody. I saw Hank when he first collapsed versus UCSB in December. Later I was literally 50 feet from him, when he collapsed and tragically passed away in WCC Tournament at Gersten. It was the most eery feeling of all my athletic experiences. Tention did a great job for LMU and as always, the Zags will get the majority of the calls, especially in Spokane!

i do like Coach Tention and the offense he runs. hopefully the Lions can come back strong next season.

I sat the row in front of his family that tragic night. I still get several calls from my friends that were there every March 4.

Congrats on the win then. Rarely do I care about anything other than the spread, but I'm sure even you have a team or school that you would like to see have their moment of glory.

one of the great years in the ncaa when loyola had the run in the ncaa tournament. if i remember correctly they easily beat mich (a defending champion?) won a game they shouldnt have when alabama (coached by wimp sanders in the plad jacket?) got conservative and played into lmus hands unfortunately they came up against unlv an all time great or who knows what could have happened.

i remember the year before they beat i believe wyo in the ncaa before losing. do i have my facts straight greendoberman?

they beat Fennis Dembo's Wyoming team in 87-88. lost to JR Reids UNC team in round two.
in 88-89 they lost to Arkansas in the first round (lee and mayberry)
89-90 beat New Mexico St, defending champs Michigan then Alabama (with latrell, david benoit, and i think a freshman mcdyess) before losing to that awesome UNLV team.

The Loyola player has time to dunk the ball for the win. Instead he panicked and shot an airball from underneath the basket. CHOKE!

LMU seemed very nervous on those last two posessions...the play before that, the guy gets it on the block and frantically turns and fires a seed into the side of the rim, barely drawing iron.
