From the reports on the wires and from folks that know Brees here in Austin, looks like Brees will be in a Dolphins uniform ....

wow, HUGE upgrade and with Brown/ McMichaels/Chambers to build a core around for Saban, Miami with a completely difft look

CONGRATS TO FINS FANS as they should have drafted him anyway when they had the chance

With all these teams having to get under the cap and then a spending spree with an unlimited cap, this off season could get really wild...a rich team like Dallas could end up spending moeny like the Yankees....

what a mess...Colts having Manning and Harrison restructure.

Lifelong Fins fan here. Frankly, I think he is vastly overrated and has limited physical skills (but lots of heart). I think the Fins could have done better in the draft. With that being said, I am thanking God they didn't trade for CULPEPPER instead, who has all the physical tools but no heart (or head) :pucking:

without question, Drew Brees is the best available "right now" quarterback including those in the draft. Brees is pass happy and the fins win when they throw the ball often. If they can go 9-7 with Frerotten, then insert a 300+ yard passer and they should be playoff bound. Chambers will be a valuable receiver next year. Look for him to catch 80+ passes and score 12+ touchdowns.

Brees overrated?? ... compared to who with the current crop of qbs in the league today???

Please ... his entire career ... at Westlake in Austin said he didnt have the arm strength ... at Purdue didnt have the size required of NFL qbs

One of the Top 5 qbs in the game today who is smart, a leader and throws a very catchable ball

The Dolphins are investing in a kid who will have another 6-8 high quality productive years as this one classy kid who has been top notch at all levels

WVU: McMichaels ... hell, he has to love this as Gates and Brees were very productive together .... they have a nice rb in Brown and now go get another wideout to complement Chambers and all of a sudden Miami has a lot difft look

HUGE UPGRADE and if this is true .. congrats to Fin fans as I have followed this kid since he was Class 5A player in Texas and is simply a very good investment and BOL to the Chargers as this is a major blunder letting Brees walk

Still struggling with the sudden change of heart by San Diego. I don't believe that Rivers can lead this team. In the last two years Brees has earned the respect and the right to be the 'icon" QB for the bolts and I have become to be a big fan. San Diego will be sorry for letting him go.
I think he will be a great fit in Miami and with their current draft position it would be impossible to do any better. look out for the Fins in 2006 and let Ricky smoke.

This will only make Miami better an give Saban a chance for better things to come in the "near" future.
I always kinda sorta liked Both of those guys.

Rives and that 40 million dollar contract .... BOL to SD fans!!

This will be one of the biggest blunders in the last 10 yrs as this
injury is not career threatening and Brees will come back stronger
just as he did when he tore up his knee as a Junior in high school

Lifelong big time Fins fan here as well and I agree with everything you said here wholeheartedly. I was hoping somehow Cutler would end up there. He is going to be a good one.

Royal: there are no guarantees anyone is gonna make it at the next level ..

Look at the Colts flipping the coin to decide on Manning or Leaf ...
Look at Brady lasting until the 6th round .....
Look at Favre sitting on the bench in Atlanta ....

Brees is one of the Top 5 qbs in the game today and proven talent and just coming into his prime .. count your blessings as he will be able to produce immediately while Cutler will have the usual learning curve that all NFL qbs go thru

I hear ya and you are correct. I just have a feeling and I am right on such feelings a lot. Brees is an upgrade but there is no doubt he is limited physically.

He will be fine ... this is not a career threatening injury and the Doc in Birmingham is the best and Brees is young and will bounce back and now has fire to stick it up SDs butthole for letting him walk

Good luck handing things over to a guy who basically has not played in 2 yrs

I have watched every game that Brees has played in the NFL, he is overrated, without tomlinson this guy would be a back up at best, he has no arm, he underthrew every deep ball , last but not least, I would not want the ball in his hands in the fourth quarter of a close game, he is awful and not at all confident, a turnover machine. Good QB to have to rack up wins but he will never win a superbowl or any conference championships, however, obviously an upgarde over what the fins have, Phillip Rivers will be very good I think, defenses can no longer creep up to the line of scrimmage against the chargers because of rivers arm, LT should go for 2000 this year.

EXACTLY RIGHT. I am tired of all this Drew Brees love fest just because he is from Doc Mercer's hometown. He is too short and his arm is too weak to be an elite NFL QB.

drew brees has desire, heart and passion. so many athletes lack those qualitys today. brees is a limited guy,but has always made up for that with determination.this isnt about brees shoulder. its about AJ smith showing marty who runs this team. its about forcing smiths guy(rivers)on marty who desperatly wants brees here cuz without him marty feels hes being set up by smith to fail. and thats his ticket out of san diego which is what smith wants.recently bolts owner dean spanos called them into his office and told them to behave and play nice. and while they were all whining and bitching and pounding thier chests drew brees has gone off to find his next playoff bound team. im a huge brees fan. i hope he leads his team to the playoffs. i despise 4-12 seasons and wont enjoy living thru philip rivers growing pains. on the bright side those high draft picks rock!:103631605

Just checked with the sports department where I work here in Austin. They said there seems to be a good chance it'll happen, but not until Thursday or later. And not 100 percent done-deal even then. Good chance, but not certain.

roxy, im not sure what high draft picks your talking about, the chargers didnt tag him so that means no picks for the bolts, i like brees as a qb personally, im a boys fan and was hoping we might get him but it looks like that wont happen, everyone talks about him not doing well outside of san diego cuz of not having the players anymore, san diego had a great team dont get me wrong, but gates didnt do it by himself, brees may have made him just as good as everyone says he made brees, hes never been without brees, lt is great, with or without brees, weve seen that, and if he goes to miami, its not like he is going to a place with no talent, they did a heck of a job at the end of the season and brown looks pretty legit and he has some pass catching options, i think he will do well if he goes there

although i wouldnt have done what the bolts did, the bengals benching kitna and putting carson out there seemed to work pretty well, kitna had a good year before they put carson in, this is a pretty similar situation and the benglas looked like geniuses with carson going in, maybe the chargers get the same luck, i think schottenheimer is a terrible coach, but after seeing rivers for two years, that coaching staff should at least have a pretty good idea of whether or not he can come in, and it looks like they think so
