weird. need more details about this one...what are you using to play the songs? you say when it plays songs or sounds, give some examples of programs that kill the sound.

First thing I would try is to ctrl+alt+del and use task manager to shut down every program that it'll let you shut down except for Explorer. Beyond that you'll have to give some more details about what programs you're seeing this on.

OK>>>>i figured something out....

When I try to open a file using itunes or winamp, the wave goes down and i have to put the wave up manually...BUT...when I do the same thing and goto "open with" - Windows media player...its fine...

dont know how this happened but its annoying. thanks for your time if you can look into it for me

you might have the file associated w/ both programs. If you want Windows media to open it then disable the option in your other programs or vise versa

there are some weird differences between winamp on different computers.

On my computer, winamp's volume is entirely independent of either my system main volume or my system's wave volume. I've seen people's computers where it is hooked directly into the wave volume so that as you change the volume in winamp it changes it on the mixer in real time, and other where winamp changes the system volume but doesn't move the mixer slide bar. I'm sure this is both winamp version and sound driver dependent.

That probably isn't very helpful, but go open up winamp and see if when you move the sound around in there if the mixer's wave bar moves with it in real time.

ok figured it out, probably. Go into winamp (my version is probably different so this may be a little off) right click on the main bar, go to options->preferences

then go to plug-ins and choose output. There will be an option in this window that says "waveOut output vX.X.X wave_out.dll" choose that and click configure. Once you're in there, change the device from whatever it currently is to "Microsoft sound mapper". click oks to get out of it and restart it.

Should change it to software mapping and change it if winamp was doing it.

I tried that and didnt work...

But I just uninstalled winamp and reinstalled it(because somehow I got itunes to work....so winamp was the only one not working...so I reinstalled it and it works fine now

thanks for your time though:103631605
