Why would we ban internet gambling? It can't be on moral grounds, especially when one considers that we allow the lottery which has odds of 150 million to 1 or worse. So if we can tax poor people's dreams the moral position is worthless.
Maybe because we don't want to make it too easy for people to gamble? Yes, that might be the reason why there are all those off-track betting spots, casinos every 25-60 miles, and again, for the truely addicted, just keep buying scratch off tickets or daily pick 3 (in Illinois there are 3 pick 3 drawings per day!!) and the ever juiced up claim you can't win if you don't play.
Maybe they can't figure out how to tax internet gambling? Naw, this is Congress and they know how to tax, especially when it comes to the average "Joe" out there.
The only reason I can think of is to score political points with social conservatives who can't see beyond the rhetoric. Yes, good old rhetorical points against a constituency that lacks any political heft.
Gosh, I am sick of all this bull. When did intelligence go out of style?
