A new survey gives U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl a double-digit lead over Valley shopping center developer and former Arizona Democratic Party chairman Jim Pederson.
A poll by SurveyUSA gives Kyl a 57 percent to 33 percent lead over Pederson in their U.S. Senate battle. Ten percent of the 590 registered voters interviewed for the poll were undecided.

The SurveyUSA poll did show Pederson and Kyl essentially tied with moderate voters and Pederson leading with Hispanics.
However, Kyl beats Pederson with independents and grabs 26 percent of Democrats in the survey. Kyl also does well with older voters and women in the poll. Women and moderates are key support bases for Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano's re-election efforts.
The Pederson-Kyl Senate race is expected to be the most expensive in state history, and both campaigns are raising substantial money from the business community and executives.
Kyl is seeking his third term in the U.S Senate and is popular with business interests for his support of tax cuts, repeal of federal estate taxes and free trade policies. The Arizona Republican also is a close ally of the Bush administration, though he opposes White House approval of a controversial deal that allows a state-owned country from the United Arab Emirates to oversee operations at some major U.S. ports.
Pederson is a top local real estate developer, the former state Democratic chairman and leading financial contributor to Democratic causes and campaigns. Pederson also opposes the port deal involving Dubai Ports World.
Kyl and Pederson will face off in November, and both political camps expect the race to tighten. A January Zogby/Wall Street Journal poll had Pederson within 10 percentage points of Kyl.
