Fun, miserable, or just like most jobs? Good chance for advancement? Degree needed for management? Is Reno better or worse?

Long ago it used to be a BLAST. But that was then an this is now. Way back when there was Always a Supervisor right there, so any question that may arise would be handled in a timely fashion.
I myslef had a blast as there were ALL shapes and Sizes that used to stroll up to the window to make a bet.
I liked the common folks much better than the smart ass's by far. They were always fun to deal with.
Sometimes some guy would send his girlfriend or wife to the window, now those were lots of fun. "Ma'am are you sure you want to bet on THIS tema"...lol She would say well i think so!!

I'll tell ya who has the coolest job.

The bartenders at the sportsbook bar at MGM.

The bar faces the wall of huge screens and they have 2 or 3 of the best flat screen tv's I have ever seen on the wall behind bar.

They have some very hot waitresses walking around all day too.

I stood in front of that bar for about 3 hours and thought I was in heaven.

keep in mind Leroy's has DESTROYED the books in vegas and now the only thing required of someone to work at a book is the ability to punch in a number correctly. you could have a monkey do the work - it is that mindless. heaven forbid you actually have an intelligent question for the Bobos who work at Leroy's - it is like the Keystone Cops watching them try and find someone who can anser your question - that is assuming they even want to try - most of the time you will get a stock, "Sorry, I can't help you there (in order to answer your question i would have to think and that is not what they pay me to do here)."

and also keep in mind that for the NCAAs the ticket takers at some books are NOT facing the TVs (Stardust) so they don't get to see what everyone else is going nuts about

no thanks - you'd NEVER get me to work as a ticket taker at a book

Agree with you Winky and Pags. The ticket writers I saw/encountered at Leroys in Reno appeared pretty clueless and incompent; guy there had a real hard time updating his greaseboard.
