To me, he'll always be remembered for threatening to kill Calipari and for "sending in the goons"

anyone gonna remember him as a great coach??? :icon_conf

Believe he has a high graduating percent, slight maniac but a productive coach.

Everyone seems to accept Bobby Knight as a legend so you can't consider Chaney a bum.

Good overall Coach, he did some stupid things at the end of his career but overall he was a good coach. His teams were always tough with that matchup zone

If people think that recruiting to a place like Texas Tech is hard, try Temple. Great coach with an even greater system that got a lot out of some marginal teams.

Hope that people remember this guy in a positive light. He was involved in several ugly occurrences but at his core I think he was the coach who took in boys and made men out of them - equally concerned with them turning out to be decent human beings as he was with their winning games.

He was more bad than good. He made Bobby Knight look like a saint.:finger:

Did a couple of "not-so-smart" things, but overall I think the good outweigh the bad. On a personal note, while working at the student radio station at PSU in the late 80's I went to the Atlantic 10 basketball media day and had a chance to interview him one-on-one. I was a little intimidated but he turned out to be a very nice person, answered all my questions and wished me luck in my career. I wish him well in retirement.

Great coach...one of the greatest....we have all done things that we later regret. He's already in the Hall of Fame.

I do not like him at all. I think there are alot of bad things that can be said about him, but, I will always have respect for him. He was overall very good for college basketball. Making his kids practice at 6am, never had kids in trouble, ran a honest clean program. He should be remembered as a good coach. Although, I will always remember him for telling Calipari that he was gonna kick his ass, one of the best highlights I have ever seen.

I like it when Bill goes to the Temple football games and he is sitting in the stands and it is cold and damp out and Temple loses by 40.

Did'nt a hoops player named Mark Macon come from there? Or can you name a notable Temple player?

As far as Chaney goes, he always had these real abusive practices on campus. Everytime a player did something wrong it was always "I'm going to get the belt." and the players would all become a deafening silence often met by the horrfic lashing sounds Cheaney would dish out to the kid who didnt box out on a rebound.

Actually, Macon is also currently an assistant at Temple. Wonder what shot he's got at taking over for Chaney??

Eddie Jones was far and away the best player Temple has seen in a long time. POY in the A10 in 1992-93 when they went to the Elite Eight.

"They just want to bounce the ball and dribble the ball, but I talk about things that are going to stay with them for the rest of their lives," Chaney said. "Somewhere along the line, it will reverberate and they'll remember it."

Wow! forgot he was a Temple Owl, can only remember Macon, Tony Battie, and that big kid Ramon? I think - not too much star power out of Temple I guess

Tony Battie didn't go to Temple.

Some other notables are Aaron Mckie, Mark Jackson, Rick Brunson, TIm Perry. Not a whole lot else, Temple doesn't get many talented players.
