I would like to introduce a new site. It debunks the myths and false claims that some politicians raise as concerns about online gambling. Feel free to quote from it in any letters you send to Congress.

http://www.onlinegamblingmythsandfacts.com/

TIME TO STAND UP AND BE HEARD. LET THEM KNOW YOU VOTE, YOU PAY TAXES, YOU GAMBLE ONLINE, AND YOU ARE OPPOSED TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TRYING TO BLOCK YOU FROM ENJOYING YOUR HOBBY.

Tomorrow the Leach bill (H.R. 4411, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006) is going before the House Financial Services Committee for "mark up." Maybe they will discuss it, maybe they won't. Members may or may not try to add amendments and carve outs. They will then vote up or down. If it passes, barring another House committee claiming jurisdiction, it will be free to go to the House floor at the discretion of the House leadership.

The Leach bill (H.R. 4411, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006) outlaws financial transaction for internet gambling. It exempts certain government favorites but clearly makes financial transactions with offshore sportsbooks and casinos illegal.

The time is now to stand up and let your voice be heard. Please call or write your Representative and tell them you are opposed to the Leach bill, H.R. 4411, and the Goodlatte bill, H.R. 4777, The Internet Gambling Prohibition Act.

It's probably best to call today (AND write if you have time).

Call (202) 224-3121 and give them your zip code. They will connect you to your Representative's office.

To write follow the instruction at this link:

http://www.house.gov/writerep/

IF YOUR REPRESENTATIVE IS ON THIS COMMITTEE, THE EARLIER YOU CALL THE BETTER.

I called the # and got right thru tonight ( MD rep Dutch Ruppersberger), the girl asked a few questions, and recorded my vote against...I didn't think it would be that easy to be heard.

Everyone should call.

Is your congressman/woman on the committee? Or did you just call your representative....

Just gove them your zip code and ask for your Representative. Tell them you are opposed to 4411 and 4777 and to let his/her pals on Financial Services know as well.

Not on the list above, I called the number on the list, they asked for my zipcode, and hooked me up with the Md rep...

I suppose I could tell them a zipcode from the list to reach someone on the committee.

Apathy is not the answer. If you try and fail-at least you tried. You have a right for your voice to be heard.

JAY - I posted earlier a thread questioning what the sportsbooks and neteller themselves are doing about this.

Do you have any insight?

Why are we not hearing more from them as our partners in this fight?

Thanks

Waste of time, i contacted my guy a few years ago and got a letter back that stated something to the effect that "research shows internet gambling to be addictive..."

They don't pay attention to their constituents, they vote their party line.

When you say "It probably will be passed" -

1) Which bill are you referring to?
2) What leads you to believe it will be passed and when do you think it will pass the House?

1. It probably will be passed.
2. If you dont like reading these threads, dont go in them.
3. You will be changing your mind in about 6 months when you are a criminal for using neteller (if you can at all) and your bank shuts you down for funding offshore.

But dont call or write your senator or congressman.

GL WITH THAT!!

:thumbsup2:

There are some (very few) companies trying to do what they can. But unfortunately, most are doing nothing. If I had to guess, I would say that less than 10 companies in this industry are trying to do anything.

I don't what you expect to hear from the ones who are making an effort to fight this. The best thing players can do is take two minutes and pick up the phone.

It would be nice if players only played at books that made an effort to fight this thing, but it's not going to happen.

Would you mind posting this around Covers? Thanks

Like it or not Jay, But BETONSPORTS is leading the charge against this bill. No other sportsbook is taking a more active role in preventing this bill from passing.
