They get hurt more easily than young guys. Yankees never learn. I can't believe that bozo at sportsline.com who keeps saying that the Yankees "crippled" the Red Sox by signing Damon. Red Sox have already replaced Damon and are better off with Coco Crisp.

The overreaction to the Damon signing was baffling. Its as if the media didnt understand the Red Sox actually did have a team for quite some time before Damon. He wasnt irreplaceable. He cant throw, now he REALLy cant throw and his best years are behind him.

Naturally, that makes him the Yankees kind of player. What was it $52 million over 4 years or so they overpaid him? :hahahahah

Damon has shoulder tendinitis, won't field

The Yankees sent Damon to be examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum in California on Tuesday, and the speedy leadoff man was cleared to pinch-run for the U.S. squad if needed. Whether Damon can hit will be determined before Thursday's game, but he will not play in the field.
"I spoke to Johnny yesterday," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday. "He's not worried. He just needs to get it calmed down, so that's why he's not a defensive player for them right now."
Damon had an MRI exam. His sore left shoulder is the same one that hindered him late last year with Boston and weakened an already inferior throwing arm.
Cashman said the injury flared up while New York's biggest acquisition of the offseason was working out with the U.S. team.
"It happened there," Cashman said. "Right now, he's OK to stay out there and try and help the U.S. team obviously in a limited way now."
There is no timetable for when Damon will resume defensive drills. Cashman plans to speak with Yocum again before Thursday's WBC game.
"I don't have a final report yet. I'll have one before Thursday's game," Cashman said.
Cashman said right now he's not worried about Damon's status for Opening Day.
"This is something that should calm down and should be able to get out of the way in time for our season to start based on what I have been told by Dr. Yocum," Cashman said.
Damon, who signed a $52 million, four-year contract with the Yankees during the offseason, has played in four of the Americans' five games in the inaugural WBC, going 1-for-7. He sat out a 7-3 loss to South Korea Monday night and was a pinch-hitter in the 4-3 victory over Japan on Sunday.
His ailment is exactly the kind of issue New York owner George Steinbrenner was referring to when he spoke out against the Classic.
"I'm not concerned about him based on the fact he pinch-hit the other day, plus the fact Cash talked to him," Yankees manager Joe Torre said, referring to Damon. "Hopefully, it appears to be in the spring training-type feeling.
"To me, Johnny knows what's important. They want to win there, but he knows that he has to get himself right to help whichever club he's playing for. He knows that they're playing the Classic, but it's still a time when you get yourself in shape and you have to look out for yourself."

He's all yours yankees :realtongu

I couldnt agree with you more Mr Smith. As a lifelong Red Sox fan, I was happy to see him go. As I said at the time of the signing, The Yankees got an other Bernie Williams without the power. They both are good hitters and have zero arm. I cant wait to hear the Yankee fans on radio when teams are running all over Damon. Not to mention all the Yankee wives when Damons wife starts hitting on the rest of the team. Steinbrenner's trophies never work out well.

Wait & see who has the better next 4 years, Johnny or Coco. Anyone that knows baseball knows who made the right deal here.

great move Cashman you dumbass :missingte

What are you talking about exactly?

Damons # were ridiculously better than Crisps last year. You couldn't even compare the two. Night and day. And, Crisp was the one that was injured for most of the season - not Damon, as predicted in this thread before the 2006 season.

Damon has been playing injured most of this season and has virtually the same offensive production as Crisp, minus 16 hits. Everything across the board is identical, except Damon has the higher on base percentage.

you know who else is really good.... LUGO!

after gay rod signs with san francisco this offseason. you guys should grab Lugo from the red sox. its a double win! you gain and it leaves the red sox with a giant hole!

long term contract for Lugo would really help you. Also you should sign Coco. We wont need him anymore.

4 years 52 million looks genius from somebody who already has had a more than productive season with the team, compared to Nancy Drew's 5 year 70 million who's #'s in his first year are comparable to Damons.

please leave Buckner alone. He isnt responsible. he really isnt. maybe a little, but not more than gedman for not blocking the passed ball that tied the game up, stanley for throwing it, red sox for not trading for a closer before playoffs.

I mean the game was already tied after red sox had a 10th inning 5-3 lead in game 6, 2 outs nobody on for Mets. its 5-5 when Buckner made an error. it HAPPENS! Leave the fucking guy alone already!. and they lost game 7.

I dont mind if you want to call the red sox chokers, but the Buckner stuff is amatear hour. he really doesnt deserve the crap he gets.

Last year this trade was awful for the Sox. Crisp not only sucked but he choked as well when he saw Damon and the Yanks. Damon is a much better player but not this year. OF Damon last 5 years at least 4 are better than what Crisp could hope for ever. This year Damon is struggling and maybe injued. Crisp is suddenly coming on fast. A tale of two opposite years.

somebody has a future, somebody doesnt. Coco will have to be traded probably to make room, Damon will be traded for a 99.6% assumption of salary and a bucket of balls

great job yankees.
