Maybe they're scared from the dogs barking at the hotdog stand????? lol.......
On a serious note, it's big arenas away from home. I was told it's always like that in early games when I made the same remark...

I have gone to the 1st round at several locations and I think this is pretty normal for the 1st round. You can usually walk around and basically sit wherever you want.

People buy a tickey good for 2 games, only wanting to see one game, most sold (4 teams to buy the tickets plus fans of teams plus local crowd) NCAA wouldn't go to site otherwise.

Ever watch the first game of a sold out double header at yankee stadium or wrigley??

EXACTLY!!

I mentioned this earlier in the week in another thread.

Also been to many 1st round games and it has never even been close to a sellout in any of them.

The closest ever of the ones I personally attended was when UNLV, IOWA, and ARIZONA all played at Pauley Pavillion one year in the 80's.

I went to the Atlantic ten tournament when Calipari and Umass were No 1 and Temple was top 10 with Mckie and Eddie Jones and it was 20% full:icon_conf

I went to the first round last year at the RCA Dome in Indy. That place was crazy packed. But of course Illinois, Kentucky, Cincinatti, and Iowa were all playing there. So alot of teams whose fans didnt have far to travel. I think I read later that they set a record for most fans at a site for the 1st/2nd Rounds.

Jacksonville sold out months ago way ahead of Florida being one of the teams. It was supposedly one of the toughest Florida tickets of all time to get. LT:103631605

Every ticket was sold long ago for these, with scalpers wanting a pretty penny for them. Tickets in SD were going for $300 or more for the weekend. Just think about it, if you are in Greensboro and you are a Duke fan, are you going to show up early in the day and watch the games, or just take the hour drive and catch your team play? Same for UCLA fans, drive to San Diego for you game and then get out long before the Huskies and Aggies tip off.

Selling tickets isn't the problem...it is like Wild Bill says, most are just there to see one game. There will always be open seats in these situations.
