Do referees have too much impact on these games? I just looked at the box scores from all of todays games. In 6 of the 8 , one team had a 2-1 OR MORE advantage at the free throw line. These are just attempts, some of this could be worse if teams shot free throws better.
In these 6 games:
Duke 37-19 over GW
LSU 23-12 over Texas A&M
Alabama 25-13 over UCLA
Wichita 29-13 over Tennessee
Gonzaga 41-6 over Indiana
Washington 39-11 over Illinois
5 of the 6 with more attempts won, and 5 of the 6 covered. And it wasn't like these were blowouts or games where one team had to foul repeatedly. There was some of that fouling at the Duke and Zaga games, but they already had huge advantages going into the final minutes. And yes Indiana took a ton of threes against Gonzaga, that might explain why they only shot 6 free throws but that doesn't explain Gonzaga's 41 attempts.
in the other 2 games, Florida and BC won easy and covered and the free throws were pretty much even
