Billy (The Genius) Packer was right. The Missouri Valley Conference wasn't as good as those power conferences (Big 10, Big 12). They are better!!! He should apoligize on national TV today.

The time has come for PACKER to retire and do most of the country a favor.

Billy Packer is that a foot I see in your mouth. Go Bradley. Whoever picked Pitt to go to the final four and said that crap to me earlier. All I have to say is HAHA.

The time has come and passed a long time for that moron. He still thinks David Thompson is dunking for NC State and Lefty Driesell is going at it on the sidelines with Dean Smith.

I originally thought I would read

"Mike Krzyzewski's penis tastes salty"

But your post is just as good.

Have to agree with all the sentiment about Packer, but most of the big time announcers cover the major conferences all season long and therefore they have connections with the teams they cover. Last weekend Jim Nance and Packer were all over the committee about picking four from the Mo. Valley, but the fact is, they never cover the Valley, or any other Mid-major conference, so they're pissed some of their friends are left out of the tourney. They're comfortable today, with UConn playing Kentucky, but they both leave alot be desired about non-baised commentary.

I think Raftery is one of the best in the biz. I like Jay Bilas too.

like most things, its a matter of opinion. in my opinion, he was once the best and has become a charicature of himself...much the same as john madden and chris berman.

i just cannot stomach the same catch-phrases that i heard 12 years ago:

"and duke comes out....MAN-TO-MAN!"

"ooooh, the kiss..."

"send it in, big man!"

"the sweet dish"

i mean, come on.

Yeah true, the same stuff gets old, but thats what he's known for. Same with Vitale, so they keep using it.

Raftery's analysis is usually pretty good though, Packer seems to only talk about the past and brings up the stupidest crap from the 1960s or something. Jay Bilas/Rick Majerus are the best two to know what is actually happening in the game.

did anybody else catch when Digger Phelps & Jay Bilas were literally yelling at Joe Lunardi because he was favoring the MVC - even having Mizzou St in the tourney?

* Digger's response - "I watched the Bradley vs. SIU game and it was an ugly game, because Badley went 9 mins w/ out a fg"...so the MVC basically is not that good.

hmm...it cant good defense or just having an off game shooting? I wonder if he noticed how Pitt from the almight Big East had 1 ONE fg in the first 10 mins of the game? You're a paid analyst - watch more than one fuckin game before voicing your opinion.

* Jay Bilas - "Seton Hall would beat any MVC team 7 out of 10 times"

- I was LOL when I heard it...now i'm LMAO now.

And to top it all off...Billy Packer has ADMITTED that he doesnt follow the MVC - and has barely watched a game from the conference. Unbeleiveable get paid to watch basketball - do your job.

I like people like Bilas (although that statement above), Doug Gottlieb, etc...becuase I know they pay attention...and can name me at least one player from each team...people like DIgger make me gag as its a fact they dont know shit outside the Big East.

I still say the MVC is an overrated conference. That's not saying they don't have some good teams. Wichita was clearly the best team during the season and Bradley was clearly the hottest coming down the stretch. The difference between those two schools and the rest of the conference is that they can score. My problem with the MVC was the idea that they should get 5 or 6 teams in. That was crazy talk. Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois both struggled to score in their tourney games. Missouri State and Creighton also would have struggled to score. Bradley has been lucky to play two teams that are so set in their man to man ways. Play a zone against Bradley and watch them struggle. Wichita can score vs any defense.

Bradley - yes the best scoring team in the conference..but everyone is about the same during conference play (a fg or 2 seperating everyone):

SCORING OFFENSE
## Team G W-L Pts Avg/G
--------------------------------------------
1.Bradley............. 18 11-7 1339 74.4
2.Missouri State...... 18 12-6 1283 71.3
3.Wichita State....... 18 14-4 1209 67.2
4.Creighton........... 18 12-6 1180 65.6
5.UNI................. 18 11-7 1167 64.8

I know its not the prettiest style of basketball to watch...but damn, how can you say they're overrated still? Only one of the teams were the higher seed to win (WSU) & have 2 teams in the Sweet 16...one is a 14 seed...According to seeding, none of the MVC should be marching still...and they have 2.

W/ the Bigger conferences looking like shit (ie: Big 10) - pretty hard to shit on MVC - who's playing very competitively. Something like Iowa, MSU, etc cant say for themselves.

In all fairness, Jim Nantz did sort of apologize after seeing who got in to the Sweet 16. He didnt shy away from his comment and said something to the extent of I guess they did belong here. It was during both the UConn and Villanova games.
