1) I wanted Mr. Smith to contact me offline, and because this site has no Private Message function, I posted my email address.
It was removed promptly by one of the mods, with a "Please don"t post emails" message.

SUGGESTION: Either install software which allows pm's, install software which allows an email to be sent to a poster if they opt in for this function, or allow posters to put up their email address if they wish to contact someone offboard.

I vastly prefer the boards which have a pm function to a board like this which doesn't.
But if you're not going to provide pm's, what is the point of disallowing email addresses?
I know you don't want spammers, but that was the only time I've ever posted my email address here, and it was addressed to a specific person.
What is the point of discouraging contact?

2) On the bottom under "Contact Us", post an email address. I emailed twice yesterday using your website email function.
I have no idea if the email was received, nor do I have a copy of the emails I sent.
I would know if it was received, and I would have a copy, if the website provided an email address.

3) ANSWER YOUR EMAILS!

I don't know if my emails were received because it's been 24 hours and there's been no response.

I have seen several posts in the past where people have stated they emailed and never got a response.

What is the point of having a "Contact Us" option, if there is to be no response?

I asked TTinCO to respond in the header, because he was always helpful when he was at MW, and I'm hoping I can get a response from him to my 2 emails to the website in a timely manner.
I'm not familiar with the other mods here - I'm hoping I can get some help.
Can a mod respond?

I haven't spent much time at the RX - thought I'd spend more - so far I'm not encouraged. At most forums I've patronized, this entire post would've been unnecessary.

Scooter

I personally answer every email sent to me here at The Rx. I am an addressee on any contact The Rx. emails and can't find any sent by you - however we have had a long standing policy about emails here at The Rx.

The Rx. does not allow posters to use private email addresses in threads in any of our forums..

Anyone wanting to contact another poster by email please contact me at wilheim@therx.com

Include your own exact user name and the exact user name of the poster you want to contact.

I will forward messages but not give out email addresses of posters who have not previously OKd' it by email.

Thank you, wilhiem..

Sorry Scooter, it looks like something is wrong with the Contact Us webmail form (emails are not coming through:icon_conf ). In the meantime, feel free to email me directly at ttinco@therx.com.

I can fill you in on the PM issues..:toast:

Thank you Wilheim and TTinCO for responding.

It's been pointed out several times in the past that emails haven't come through, but thanks to TTinCO for being thorough and following through and verifying that your email function doesn't work.

That's why I suggest that the email addresses you two posted above be listed on the site.
I've had many website experiences where those webmail systems do not function correctly, and there's no way for the emailer to know if it was received or not.

I'll email you guys.

anyone on this forum should know all the MODS email addresses by now...It's been bumped and posted many times over...I guess maybe for a newbie, they would not know this but it's easy to post and ask for one.

Can you fill everyone in on the PM issues here TTinCO? I'm sure there are a ton of posters on here that would be interested to know what the PM situation is...especially since a lot of other forums seem to be providing this option. I actually never really thought about it till just now, but yeah.

The PM issue has been much debated and I don't see anything changing here at The Rx. in the near future. There are just way to many touts and other promotional entities that are forever trying to attract Rx. posters.

Thanks, wil..

Ah, that's a good point...although maybe it'd work if you enabled the user to have to either accept/not accept the PM from the poster, kinda like how AOL/AIM works. That way they can decline to view the message and/or block them if it's a tout? Just a thought.

FYI....Our emails are always posted in a thread near the top in the Comment on The Prescription forum.

You're right Scooter, those webmail forms are definitely less than rock solid. It probably "broke" in the last software upgrade. I'll try to remember to check it after the next upgrade.

Wil summed up the PM issue. We already waste entirely too much time chasing the touts-there are more of them than you ever imagined....and I swear that 90% of them have tried to spam the forums at one time or another.

I can only imagine what it would be like with PM's.

Very simple solution to the PM function. All you have to do is not allow anyone with less than 500 post to use the PM function. This will prevent any fly by nights from spamming this joint.

Good point. And if anyone with 500 or more spams, they are gone.

Wilheim - "The PM issue has been much debated and I don't see anything changing here at The Rx. in the near future. There are just way to many touts and other promotional entities that are forever trying to attract Rx. posters."

However, the pm function works with no problems at MW, LVA/Fezzik's, ogd, and many other sites.

It's a great function.

Also, many sites which don't have pm's have a function whereby a poster can opt in to allow other posters to send him an email.

The email is then sent to the recipient via the website, without the sender knowing the recipient's email address.

Both of the above are much easier and more direct than going thru the mods.

viking611 - "anyone on this forum should know all the MODS email addresses by now...It's been bumped and posted many times over...I guess maybe for a newbie, they would not know this but it's easy to post and ask for one.:

You have over 4,000 posts. It should be as easy for someone on their first post to be able to contact a mod, as someone who lives here.

"it's easy to post and ask for one."

It's even easier not to have to post and ask for one.

KIDSLICK - "listen everytime i email that guy from colorado , i always get a response back within 10 minutes"

Read my original post. That's why I asked TTinCO to respond.

KIDSLICK - "they reason for no private email's. -- too many people wouls use it for touting a service or another website--fwiw"

I posted above - "However, the pm function works with no problems at MW, LVA/Fezzik's, ogd, and many other sites."

I have yet to have a tout or spammer use the pm function at any of those sites to contact me. I've been on those sites for years.
I'm sure if it was to occur in the future I would survive in one piece.
