do any of you guys know anything about car audio?

ive got a 2003 chevy avalanche...im going to be putting a system in it and i want it to be top notch...ive been looking at putting 2 MTX 9500s in with either 1 4000 watt mimphis amp or 1 1500 watt to each sub...im not bias on any brand just want the best but price is an issue...ive got about 4000 bucks and that has to cover install, parts, deck, amp, subs, box all of it...the reason im looking at the MTX is my shop that usually does my work is big on MTX...ive heard them and they sound pretty bad ass...do you guys think there is a better choice for the same price as the mtx 9500s...ill be playin hip hop, rap and r&b, and clean sound is more important than just loud...but i do want to be able to show off in a battle...what are your suggestions
Thanks in advance

the one they call FISHHEAD around here hasn't had a functional radio in his car for 2+ years...I get in his car the other day and took me 2 minutes to fix it and have it working...(this was about a week ago)...made fish's weekend...totally ecstatic!! Get into his ride today and he is not even listening to the radio!:monsters- Think he went so long without it that he doesn't even know what it is like to listen to a cd or tunes on the radio!!

hornet - what else are you working with? head unit? mids/highs?

i put together a system about 2 years ago, so i'm sure things have changed but from what i've heard about mtx, great upper end amps and subs, not so great mids/highs... which are very important.

I think for $4000 you can do better and get a cleaner and more of an organized system using your power effiecently...

While the MTX woofers are good bang for the buck, I always thought that nothing releases more cleaner sound then the Kicker Solo Barics...mainly because the size of the solo baric is designed to push cleaner and more air thus, giving you that shake in your body.

Advantages of the Solo Barics are obvious...more area per square inch will result in more bass and no other woofer on the market can move air like the Solo Barics and give you the clarity everybody seeks...

The only thing that I would say that the MTX is nicer about is the fact that it has its own heatsink...but thats because its a beast...

So if I were you, Id go with two 12inch SoloBaricL7s 2ohmDVC (so u can drop it to 1 ohm) and go with two 1500 watt Class D amps(1 ohm of course) to each woofer...

for amplifiers...I would recommend either a JL Audio "Slash Series" amp or an SX kicker amp running 1300 watts at 1 ohm...

from all this power, it seems like you'll need another battery or at the very very very least... a capacitor. You dont wanna go to crazy and end up buying a 600amp alternator like I had to! So try to keep this simple and make sure they use gold plated everything....

The L7s have a 1500watt peak and the kicker amps are rated at 1300 watts at 1 ohm...dont be disgruntled that the amp is slightly lower then what the speaker can handle...1100-1300 watts is exactly what you want going to a speaker like that to put out a CLEAN crisp sound and not hear your license plate rattling.

The great thing about the JL Audio amps is that it automatically ajusts itself to whatever resistance the woofers are. So lets say the woofers are at 2ohm, the amp will auto adjust itself to 2 ohm...which is pretty fucking amazing considering the technology....

For the record...I have owned MTX, Eclipse, Audiobahn, JL Audio, Alpines, Sonys, Kenwood, DEIs, and NOTHING compared to the insanity of the Solo Baric L7s...the amount of air they pushed still amazes me...

MTX is the best bang for the buck. Sure you can get something slightly better than MTX, but the price difference does not outweigh the performance difference.

Ebay offers a warrenty with all electronics. Make sure the seller has good feedback. I have had nothing but great experiences with EBAY.

regarding ebay offering warranties for electronics.

fine print :

eBay is looking to electronic products to help them achieve a 2005 revenue target of $3 billion. To encourage sales, eBay now offers warranties for electronic merchandise at additional cost. But the warranty does not protect against fraud, misrepresentation, or inoperable products, all of which are rampant problems with electronics; instead, eBay is still referring customers to its standard bidders protection insurance policy.

Good luck with your purchase.

I dunno if going the eBay route is wise...most car audio stores in town will just replace the woofer you blew with a new woofer - if you go the eBay route, you maybe without a woofer for a while...although, there should be no reason why you should blow a woofer (unless ur setup is wrong)...but just in case, I would stick with the local dealer even tho it cost a little bit more...but theres always issues when it comes to car audio

also, if your worried about your highs and what not...just replace ur car speakers with whatever and get a cheap little 4 channel amp for them...it'll sound great....Im not a fan of tweezers though cuz they get way to high pitch and really fuck with your ears
