As important as this individual matchup is, this game may have more of an impact well beyond the 2006 NCAA's...Gonzaga has been making waves now for several years, but never has done much of anything come March, with a key win over the vaunted Bruins, this could be the game that puts the Zags over the top, as far as future local recruiting goes.

I doubt the Zags beat them, but, if they somehow beat mighty UCLA, the power could shift even further out of the Pac 10.

I would think that they would compete more with the two washington schools since they are in washington.
Although I will admit that being from California my personal thought process is why would any one consider any place over USC or UCLA

Morrison has the flu, if he's not 100% Bruins will put the clamps down defensively and Zags won't have a go-to man to turn to.

This Gonzaga team is so similar to Indiana State its not even funny.

I don't think Morrison will be Larry Bird in the NBA though....not even Larry Nance.

Huskies have been outrecruiting everyone in the Pac 10 recently. Arizona is our only toughest competition for the best, although the Bruins are getting back up there. Gonzaga hasn't really won over too many recruits the top half of the Pac 10 has fought over. They have gotten a mix of international kids, local area kids (Morrison is a hometown hero) and a few lightly recruited kids to fill in the gaps. The foreign players have been a real big part of the story there.

I know the Zags are finally healthy, but I think UCLA's defense will be the difference...

What stands out to me in these type of threads is when all the Forum are on the same side, there's not one post of square play, being part of the public dross or recent gonzaga money being sharp. Makes you think:drink:

UCLA(defense) VS Gonzaga(offense)- not sure who wins out so take the points.UCLA's offense not so go, GOnzaga'a defense not so good. The one thing I think the ZAG's may have the advantage in is they have played a ton of close games and won them, confidence wise if this is a close game you would think the Zag's would have the edge.

I paid lots of $$ in the 80s and 90's to learn this!! Betting on UNLV,Kentucky ...etc, when they were blowing out everyone in there conference, and then they would face teams in the ACC that were winning games in conference in the last 2 minutes of the game. ACC usually prevailed and Cost me $$$$. UCLA has had one game in the last month decided by 8 points or less. Gonzaga 4, including a bunch in their conference tourney and the Indy game was a lot closer then the 10 point final.

UCLA may drill them because I like there defense, but something tells me this comes down to the very end and getting 3.5 to 4 points is a lot in that situation.

Spencer Hawes is a bit thin so might take him a year to reach his college potential, but should be a great talent in a position Romar has never had a great player to work with. UNC and Duke showed a lot of interest in him, U of A and Stanford as well, but as he has done last few years Romar has kept almost all the local stars around.

The way to beat Gonzaga is generally to take advantage of their poor defense and outscore them. Lots of teams try to slow the pace or stop them with defense, but makes more sense to just take advantage of the easy baskets they give up. I don't know if UCLA is good enough on offense to do this, but they have enough weapons to take a shot at it. Very tough game to call.
