Definitely one of the most unusual bad beats...

I've got to think that tonight has to be the first time that _118 POINTS_ score in the first half of an NBA game, and the total ends up going under by double digits. Seattle and Sacramento combine for _170_ points in the first three quarters of the game (higher than some game totals for four quarters!) and suddenly, everyone goes cold in the fourth quarter. Granted, at 214 the game total was quite high, but to go under by 13 points after scoring 118 in the first half...that's unheard of...

...and worse than NJ/Washington going over after a _71 point_ fourth quarter (a 52 point quarter would have kept the game under) and worse than the Lakers/Cleveland on Sunday, which had 112 points at the half, needed 91.5 in the in the second to cover the game line, and collapsed.

These are some seriously atrocious beats. Guess which side I was on in each!

Teams that have been scoring over the 1st-half total have also gone under the 2nd-half total by a large percentage this year. This is especially true of games where the 2nd-half total is between 10 and 18 points less than the points scored in the 1st half.

Of course teams that go over the first half total end up going under the second half total all the time...that doubt happens multiple times per day. The fact that a first half total is hit says nothing about whether the second half total is hit, particularly when second half lines are adjusted for trends established in the first half.

But I don't recall ever seeing a pair of teams score a combined 118 points in the first half, and then go under the GAME total by double digits when all is said and done, no matter how high the game total is. 118 points is about as many points as you're ever likely to see scored in the first half of a basketball game...to think that with that much of a cushion, you'd end up going under the game total by a wide margin...I can't recall ever seeing that.

I don't believe you will see the second half total 'adjusted' because of first half streaks or trends, only if there's a serious injury, almost every time the total is pre-set based on the game total...certainly not much if at all.

You're right. I think that there is a little adjustment made (no more than 1-1.5 points) and can be taken advantage of. Not ALL books make this adjustment and it can lead to some nice middles if you get the lines right away and pounce on them.

I've noticed this as well J-man. If you get a team that doesn't let up, or a team that typically scores more in the 2nd half than in the 1st you can get a good price on the total.
