I don't get it.

Most people who lose but PRETEND they're winning are arrogant, IMO.

Because winning confirms the handicappers predictions and thus inflates the ego. Once your head gets big enough and enough people slob your knob arrogance ensues.

It probably helps fulfill them to believe the lies they have fooled others into believing.

What they fail to understand is that those negative emotions will cause them many future problems in many areas during life.

Arrogance is not caused by winning, IMO. Arrogant people are arrogant and will be arrogant whether they win or lose.

that's a good answer...

I have noticed someone in particular when he wins, he feels as if he has to insult every one around him....just wondering why that is.

Nothing wrong with being confident, but being a complete a-hole, I have never understood that.

He could still be a losing capper over the long haul, but he is arrogant when he wins.

Well, that basically means that winning gives him a license to display his arrogance, right? Or is this guy really a good capper?

Well I'm sure you're aware of the clinical surveys that say gamblers by nature lack self esteem and turn to gambling for affirmation and self-worth. The lil penis factor in fancier words.

Good question, Journeyman.

I think every person--especially men--want/need reinforcement and praise that we are doing a good job. If I build a good bridge, by golly, I want someone to say "Damn, that's a good bridge!" If I go against the crowd and predict a huge upset, I want someone to say, "Damn, El, nice call on that upset." It's human nature to desire appreciation for good work.

So, naturally, the posters who win a fair amount of picks desire a fair amount of ego stroking. As we get older, we get better at just being happy to help others succeed and don't need all the credit ourselves.

But since gamblers as a group are risk-takers and, let's face it, at least a little greedy, we want positive reinforcement for our good picks. It's just too bad that some of us have to be dicks about it instead of just admitting that we'd like a little love for our good work. JMHO

I agree and I don't think most winning cappers are arrogant. You find arrogant people in all walks of life so you would expect to find some here.

This does NOT apply to the ones who hang here...

But most bettors are losers, and would cozy up to these confident-sounding sales guys. :smoking:

When "good work" is not acknowledged,
one tend's to say "fuck it".
