The rumor going around last week following Tiger's below average showing at Arnie's Bay Hills tourney was that his mind was elsewhere due to his dad's health.

It is no secret that Tiger's Dad is in poor health, battling cancer.

ESPN was talking earlier this evening that Tiger flew home today to be with his dad, but that he would return for his Thursday 12:33 p.m. tee time.

If Tiger does show for his tee time, if there ever seemed to be a good time
to take Vijay vs. Tiger at +150 at Olympic, Mickelson +170 and or Els +170, this may be it.

Just like Daly went into the dumper (so to speak) when his wife went away to federal prison and has been a HUGE fade, it may be worth a real close look this week. (though I doubt Tiger will pound an extra 15-20 beers per night to help him through tough times)

Considering the circumstances, I might be inclined to do the opposite and back the greatest golfer in the world.

As an avid golfer and close follower or nearly all pro golfers, normally I would agree. Tiger is generally someone I do not like to bet against because he is, by far, the best grinder in the game and gets the most out of every round.

But every indication, including from interviews with Chris Dimarco and Mike Weir earlier today, leads me to believe this may be the one thing that can truly distract him from being fully focused.

Time will tell - my guess is, depending on his dad's status, he'll either DQ or have mediocre to poor rounds Thurs and Fri and head west.

But for this once, I am going against the world's number 1.

Fading Tiger Woods is harmful to the bankroll. I think only him and five others
have a chance to win the Masters. V.J., Mickelson, Toms, Scott, and Els.
No short hitter has a chance this year, the course has been lengthened again.

Absolutely agree with your Masters thoughts - I'd probably add Couples, Luke Donald and Robert Allenby to the list.

(Allenby , Scott and Woods are all in the top 15 in PGA driving distance.)

As stated above, this is a one-shot deal for me fading Woods.

I'll take even par out of Tiger with Vijay at -4 and Mickelson at -2 after Day 1 at the Players. Tiger is definitely not all there mentally.

would say TIGER will probably turn it on after today's round and try to win it for his old man!

whats the big deal .

he flew home on a private jet and flew back a day later .

not like he was flying coach and had some fat guy next to him stealing his arm rest.

something tells me he got plenty of rest in the lazy boy chair on his plane.

just another drama stunt by the drama king. if his dad was on his death bed , he would have withdrawn.

How do you know Tim Herron wasn't on the flight as well?

from reading the reports about his dad - Earl Woods is living on BORROWED TIME!

he isn't long for this world - you can take that to the bank. my parents work indirectly with cancer patients and from hearing them talk about patients and all - and from reading that Earl's cancer has spread - he could die anyday and it wouldn't shock me. he could live another few years and it also wouldn't shock me - but i doubt Earl Woods sees 2007

Winky:

wow, makes ya realize that some folks have "callings" in life that contribute a tad bit more than the rest of us

That has to be a draining job but God bless em as too many folks go thru life never contributing one damn thing back to mankind

Tiger with 5 birdies and 3 bogies for a 3 under thru 12 today.

I have Mickleson (-2 has not teed off yet), Singh (+1 for the day and -3 for the tourney) and Els (-3 for the day and -3 for thr tourney) in full tourney matchups.

All are +165 or better.

I liked it better when Tiger was distracted and pissed off about his swing, though.

So far so good

Tiger - even par thru 12

Vijay - minus 7
Els - minus 7
Mickelson - minus 4

Tiger's trying to get out of town ASAP on that $20 milllion boat.

went and checked out the 3rd round yesterday. Saw Tiger tee it up at 10 and stop midway through his swing because he "heard" something. He also threw a club yesterday. Followed around Ames and Furyk through first 5 holes or so and then saw them finish. Saw Tiger play 17 and witnessed all the birdies there yesterday...very cool hole to sit and watch. Overall had a great time watching golf at the extremely beautiful course...am going to be back in Jacksonville starting this week so believe I'm going to get atleast one round in there!
