Firmly believe so!

I would love investigating a crime scene with a selection of SHARPS/WISEGUYS I know personally.

-FH-

ps- Think Bigbet thoughts and questions are addicting.....

Actually watching the show THE EVIDENCE currently that I taped last night.....looks intriging if I was paying better attention.

Fish ,
Your synopsis or question is incorrect and I'm living prove. When it comes to betting as you know, I am the epitomy of sharpness, however, there is not a day goes by that I dont ask "where did I put my Car Keys" :drink:

I'm not so sure how sharp I am but I do my share of gambling and I have a degree in Criminology?

Fish,
A good detective show is "The First 48" on A&E. They follow real-life homicide detectives as they work cases. I think a sharp gambler and a detective would share some of the same attributes such as looking at all of the facts/evidence (lines/stats/injuries) and let that lead you to a conclusion instead of "feelings" or emotions. Putting lots of time/hours in working a "case" etc... Having said that a good part of detective work entails "people" skills for interviewing suspects, witnesses etc...that a gambler may not possess. Lots of sharp guys on this site sit behind their computers shopping for lines and information without leaving their home or having to talk to anyone. I think this is a key area where the similarity would end. Of course, some sharps will have these "people" skills so some would probably make good detectives.

vol, I've seen alot of tv/movies and they've told me that alot of it has to do with their gut/feeling (intuition I guess). Generally a trait of a square. Cops also tend to make bad gamblers ;)

No way!

Reasons #1 - Detectives have no deadlines in solving a case, whereas the gambler must make his plays by the start of the game, meaning the gambler generally has a week or least to arrive at a conclusion for a particular case/game

Reasons #2 - The so called sharp is basically a nerd, or geek, as the younger generation calls them.

What does the sharp actually do all day?

It is essentially bookworm activity, in front of the computer.

At least it is suppose to pay and make your wallet fat ...

The Fireman = College Foots Wiseguy

And totally agree with you Fish..no stones left unturned..uber-keen observation skills.

Bob Martin, Herbie Hoops, Lem, Pittsburgh Jack,etc..could've been successful at most any endeavors.

Totally disagree with you........maybe more so with gamblers that JUST WAGER on the internet, but I am speaking of your real full fledged wiseguy/sharp who can make a good buck other places besides just on the internet.

Be it SPORTSBETTING, POKER, VIDEO POKER, SLOTS, BLACKJACK, or ANY other gambling venues where a profitable advantage can be had.

Horseshoe, I am between a square and a wiseman. My corners have become a little rounder since the internet. I can only aspire to be as wise as you. As I said to Insiders, get to the Bash at all costs if you can. I think you have already confirmed? We could have a AARP chapter at the Bash. That would be a HOOT and The Cats Meow. LT:party:
