Awful coaching by Gonzaga...

Yep, they just werent ready for the trap. Last few minutes was chaos for them.

Tough to choose which game was a better finish tonight

As I said in a Texas / West Virginia thread. You don't get this in the NBA

I have Texas/Gonzaga in one pool, WVU/UCLA in the other. I am leading in both.

All I wanted was to avoid a split.

I got a split.

I thought it was great, but I would like to see UCLA & Texas in the FINAL FOUR. Zags have played in a dead conference and we all knew it would hurt them in March.

The coach for the Zags just saw his stock plummet..not a good coaching job in the last minutes.

This place isn't paradise... trust me.

Though I love my Pac 10... Gonza screwed up and gave it to UCLA IMHO.

Happy to see the Bruins move on though now that DUKE! is out.

This is the play I feel killed Gonzaga, although most people might not have noticed.

<TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=2 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR class=bg3 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>1:39</TD><TD align=left>GONZAG</TD><TD align=left>Derek Raivio missed 3-pt. Jump Shot</TD></TR><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>1:33</TD><TD align=left>GONZAG</TD><TD align=left>Offensive Rebound by J.P. Batista</TD></TR><TR class=bg3 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>1:32</TD><TD align=left>GONZAG</TD><TD align=left>J.P. Batista missed Layup, Blocked by Ryan Hollins</TD></TR><TR class=bg2 vAlign=center align=right height=17><TD align=left>1:26</TD><TD align=left>UCLA</TD><TD align=left>Defensive Rebound by Darren Collison</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Gonzaga was up by 5 at the time. What the hell was Batista doing? Hold the ball, pass it back out, do something other than shoot. They could have killed 35 seconds off the clock, or forced UCLA to foul. Although it didn't directly lead to points for UCLA, it set the tone for the brainlocked collapse in the last minute.

Also, about a minute before, Morrison missed a tough jump shot with abut 15 seconds left on the shot clock. Doesn't anyone know how to drain the clock with a big lead?

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

I dont know...the Dallas/GS game lats night was just as exciting. I agree that the finality of lossing and not playing for the rest of your life for some of these kids makes these games exciting. The NBA does have its share of great finishes in the playoffs....JMO

igetp2s,

i 100% agree with you....i was screaming when i saw him put the ball up....if they back the ball out and run the clock down again....ucla would have to foul and if the zagss couldve gotten to the line this game wouldve been over.

play of the game in my opinion

And if you watch the replay, you'll see that in the final seconds he could have passed the ball to Raivio (a 90% free throw shooter and point guard) - instead the numbnut held the ball over his head waiting to get fouled.
