'Idol' Fans Say Daughtry Copied Song
Friday March 24 3:06 PM ET

"American Idol" chat rooms were buzzing Friday over a controversy surrounding Chris Daughtry's version of "I Walk the Line."

Judges praised Daughtry for making the song his own when he performed the Johnny Cash tune on the Fox network show.

But some fans say the version wasn't Daughtry's, but ripped off from one done by the band Live in 2001.

One fan posted a message saying, "I just want to punch him in his bald head." Another reads: "This guy is a rip-off. Judges are plain dumb." And a third message says, "Live singer Ed Kowalczyk called and said that he would like his vocal style" back.

I bought Chris to win a few weeks back at +469. I hope this isn't true, or doesn't impact him too badly.

what the hell are they complaining about, thats what EVERYONE OF THE CONTESTANTS are doing, they are singing OTHER PEOPLES SONGS. I am pretty sure nobody on that stage has performed a song they wrote. Its just some dumb ass CHRIS haters crying.

Well, since the competition is based entirely on public opinion, and opinion seems to like the fact that Daughtry can take any song and make it 'his', this might affect his popularity.

I'm convinced the votes mean absolutely nothing. There to create interaction with the audience and thats it. AI is 95% scripted.

starting to think that same thing myself. If they stictly go on votes alone, Taylor Hicks wins hands down, If you look at the message boards on Americanidol.COM the guy has twice as many hits as anyone else. He has a HUGE following.

What's next? Huckleberry from Red Hot Chili Peppers will start whining that was our version of higher ground? Voteforworst.com informing us they are relevant by keeping Kevin on? If it was a popularity contest The Wedding Singer would win easily. But it is what it is. Is it legit, voting and all? Being I have a Master's at Diogenes school of cynic, I try not to laugh at that. You are looking at a ratings monster. That is what it is all about. What is a one minute spot worth now? What is this show worth to Ford? That is where the rubber hits the road. People listen to the three puppets, who influence the masses with their expertise and not so subtle propaganda. If I could not bet it, I would not watch it. By the way Xpanda, line has not moved on Chris since this bombshell came out. Will be forgotton after next song. If he is singing it, it is his version, that is sort of how it works.

Good, and I hope so, respectively.

I am fairly confident the three influencers will stick with the script. Does he have a previous drug bust? A bunch of people hating on the blog or Randy, Paula and Simon, the appointed expert panel. When you start getting large all of the dregs start taking shots. Relax and enjoy the show.

With what I'm holding, I don't care if Chris sings Happy Birthday as long as he sings it well.

nice catch on that jimmy, I didn't realize chris's odds was that high in the beginning. That was a tremendous steal, and great value.

My Chris is way shorter than that. Have some Ace but he is pulling up lame. Nice catch on that Jimmy.

Still some dead wood to weed out.

Once Tucker and Bucky go I think it's neck and neck with McPhee and Daughtry to the end. However, I think that Mandisa and Paris will continue to pull strong votes just based on demographics alone and talent aside.

I made a silly -266 play on Taylor hicks to NOT make the final 4 once I got a good look at his "spazz" routine and this play has me concerned. He's obviously not top 4 quality but he does get the votes as the "poor man's Michael McDonald".

Elliot running out of gas as well recently but should easily survive longer than both Bucky and Tucker.

The message boards mean little.
