Seems like whichever side you bet was a winner for everyone at Skybbok as this line was always solid at -6 so everyone won as I see it !:toast:

Getting the BEST number is 20x more important than any handicapping prowess over a CAREER!!

Been preaching this since day one on this forum.......some listen, some don't.

Some individuals feel the need to follow HOT cappers(which is fine and worthwhile), but getting the best number should be far and away their #1 concern.

That's the risk they take. But I guess they consider it a "marketing cost" when it happens.

You are so right. I have been reading the rx for around 3 years and have read you and others try to preach this and never paid attention. This past winter I went with that approach (making great bets by betting great numbers) and enjoyed the best results I have ever had (over 700 bets). Will follow that rule the REST of betting "career"

Here is a PERFECT example of why shopping is SOOOO important.......

DOGS OVERALL @ Big Dance vs the closing number...........28-26-2

Lets use $1100 to win $1000 as a guide betting all these games.

LOOK AT THE RESULTS IN THE THREE SCENARIOS OF wagering all vs. the CLOSING NUMBER, THE WORST NUMBER, and the BEST number.

RESULTS.....

CLOSING NUMBER.........28-26-2 -0.60 UNITS/-$600
WORST NUMBER...........28-28 -2.80 UNITS/-$2800
BEST NUMBER..............30-26 +1.40 UNITS/+$1400

STUDY THIS CLOSELY FRIENDS..........AND PLEASE UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH TAKING A BAD NUMBER WILL COST YOU, AND HOW FINDING THE BEST NUMBER CAN BE SO PROFITABLE.

i preach it too. you may not be able to determine the outcome of a sporting event but you do know how to compare prices at several stores. its that simple. better price equals better line value equals better odds in your favor.

I'm sure this important in bases but is it AS in important in your opinion. Trying to learn how much the value of a shopping is in all sports (bases next on myl list)

as for skybook, the half point is limited to straight wagers at a max of 300. something a big book can absorb without a problem.

The BEST number is what the best line for your team would be at ANY time leading up to the game.

Now, getting that number is not an easy thing, especially for the majority.

Why?

1. Need many OUTS.

2. Understanding line movements.

3. It takes work and/or time.

Fish what do you do if the line moves against you?

Ex: opening line is -3 you find -2 and take the favorite, but what if it goes down to -1 or something with no injuries.

With experience, most of the time an experienced bettor will instinctively know when a line bottoms out.

Granted, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get the BEST LINE all the time, but the point is one should make every possible effort to do so.............and by doing so, most of the time they will.

In your above example, a mistake would have been made on a JUDGEMENT LINE call.............would sit with the -2 and possibly press my wager at the -1 levels.

Do you look at the matchups and say I like these particular teams and try to get the best number? Or is it more along the lines of I think this line is going to move this way and I will have the best number?

I agree 100 % that getting the best number is the most important thing whether We are talking betting games or betting on futures. I have U Conn at 16/1 and also +1543. A lot different than the + 180 you see out there today. However the importance of the free 1/2 point given by Skybook sometimes allows everyone to win but the Sportsbook which is the way it should be. Anyone holding a losing ticket on the U Conn/Wash. game needs to hang it up ! :dancefool

Consider the best line "anytime".

Now having said that, one can usually find a better line than the consensus closing line if they have enough outs and/or promos.
