they don't trap or cut off the player with the ball from making the first move. remember the ucla press in the 70's it was incredible. you don't see that today

The 3 point shot changed the game...the full court press is risky unless it's executed flawlessly, it leaves too many wide open 3 point shots.

I loved to watch teams that pressed, Maryland was one of the last teams to use it somewhat effectively...Duke will use it from time to time still.

My answer - the 3 point shot and too many good ball handling big men, back then you didn't have big men who could run and catch the ball like they can now...Therefore, it is easier to break the press and punish the team that is pressing you.

do you remember the 70's ucla press? wooden had them press after every made basket.

the last great press was oregon st in i believe 81 when they had radford and bloom but what they did was plant and draw the charge. best i ever saw drawing fouls on a press.

Kentucky was the best pressing team of the past 10-15 years, they could run a team down, I will never forget the way the stormed back against Duke in the 1997 Dance.

UNLV was another run and gun team in the 70's

did ky do it for an entire game like ucla did in the 70s?

I don't remember much of the 70's but KY went full court pretty much all the time. Seems like every player on those teams at least got a sniff of the NBA, they were incredibly deep.
