According to a couple different media outlets, it's almost a done deal

and Oden and Conley ... with signing day a few days away and those 2 fellas from the same high school in Bloomington I would have Caliperi on the horn as soon as the Ink is dry on this deal

Shit, Indiana just shifted the power base in the Big 10 if this is true

IU has always been known as running a clean program, while Calipari has a rep as a guy who bends the rules. How nasty would that IU/OSU rivalry get if he pulls a "midnight Lute" and snatches away Oden and Conley??

Oden & Conley aren't going anywhere. They've already signed letters of intent.

With the team OSU is going to have next year, why would they jeopardize their shot at a national title?

Wow. I can't understand why Indiana didn't jump at the chance to hire Stevie Alford. Let's see, John Calipari or Steve Alford? I guess the people in control at Indiana have a clue after all.

This concerned me as well when his name came up a few weeks ago. But after doing some research, Calipari is doing some nice things in the classroom at Memphis. He has improved the Memphis graduation rate a ton. Even with some questionable past, I will accept Calipari with open arms and expect to be like Duke/UNC in no time.

Memphis has to be the favorite to win a national championship next year. Wonder why he would leave. I guess the salary must be ridiculus.

Whoever takes over Memphis next year has a shot to win it all in there first year as a coach. Unless the whole team leave early for the pro's. I think they only lose Carney.

He does have a good salary, its over a million a year. Carney is gone, and Williams and Washington are rumored to be going pro.

both those guys signed lettres with OSU a while back, theres a reason every time OSU was on tv the commentators mentioned the Thad Five for next year and the stud recruiting class widely veiwed as #1 next year.

I just don't get why he is leaving. He makes a million bucks and is starting to turn Memphis into a powerhouse.

Its like Calhoun leaving Uconn after a few years after he built it up... Whats the point? Why would he do that? Its not like he leaving a small school for a larger one.

IU has more to offer, IMO. A rich history, tradition... A basketball school that is the sole attraction in Indiana (sorry, Purdue fans)... Memphis has to compete against Vandy & Tennessee. Greater access to high school talent in Indana (Indiana high schools, access to Chicago talent)... More support of the program than at Memphis... (It doesn't require a top-10 ranking to sell out games in Bloomington.) Greater visibility... Bigger budget at IU... The list goes on...

Incredible college coach...would be a great hire for Indiana.
You wouldn't know that from watching the UCLA game. I could not believe how he just sat their getting all upset every time one of his undisciplined players made another turn over or took a terrible shot. He is a Hell of a recruiter but the fact that he lets his players do whatever they want leaves a lot to be desired.

:lolBIG:

I thought the same thing... He didn't run much of an offense at Memphis, but just let his players play "playground style" if you ask me... At least that's what it looked like...

Guys, have you been to Memphis? That place is dirty. I'm still hearing Crean is a viable option, but I will know more tonight.

Oden and Conley aren't going anywhere unless Thad goes somewhere.

Illini-Calipari would have IU as a powerhouse in no time. He'd be recruiting monster talent.
