BOSTON -- Massachusetts State Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill joined Boston Red Sox Chief Operating Officer Mike Dee and Scientific Games Ventures President Steve Saferin today to unveil the Red Sox Instant Ticket, the nation's first instant ticket to feature a Major League Baseball team logo.
The Red Sox Instant Ticket, which will be on sale beginning April 11, is the result of an agreement between the Lottery and Scientific Games, the largest instant ticket producer in the world. Scientific Games' licensing subsidiary, MDI Entertainment, recently entered into a relationship with MLB to offer league and team logos to lotteries for use on instant tickets. The Massachusetts Lottery is the nation's first to produce an instant ticket under this new agreement.

This game offers a mixture of immediate cash prizes, and opportunities to enter to win Fenway Fantasy Prizes, including a grand prize of a pair of Red Sox season tickets for life. The Red Sox receive no revenue from the Mass. Lottery for ticket sales.

The club will sell Scientific Games authentic merchandise, game tickets, and other experiential opportunities such as a pair of 2007 season tickets, a Players Club game with food and beverage for 200, and a Day of Game Suite with food and beverage for 20 people.

"The Lottery's goal is to generate local aid revenues for cities and towns in Massachusetts by putting forth exciting and entertaining games - and the Red Sox Instant Ticket is one more way to make that happen," said Cahill, who serves as Chair of the Lottery Commission. "We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Red Sox as we work for the 351 communities throughout the state."

"The Red Sox' goal is to continue a corporate partnership with the Massachusetts Lottery that has already benefited us as well as citizens across the Commonwealth," said Larry Lucchino, the Red Sox President/CEO. "The Lottery's partnership in creating the World Series Trophy Tour was terrifically successful. It allowed citizens in all 351 cities and towns to participate in the celebration.

"Now, we find we again have a basis for partnership. When Major League Baseball owners unanimously voted to allow team logos to be part of instant ticket games, we then had an opportunity to create yet another innovative venture."

The Red Sox Instant Ticket features more than $150 million in prizes. In addition to the top prize of lifetime season tickets, the game will also feature 10 $1 million prizes, as well as Red Sox tickets, merchandise, trips, and game-related experiences.

Each ticket will cost $5. Tickets will be sold at the Lottery's 7,600 licensed retailers throughout Massachusetts.

"We are honored that Major League Baseball, like the NBA and NHL, has selected Scientific Games to be their marketing partner in the instant ticket lottery category," said Saferein, President of Scientific Games Ventures and MDI Entertainment. "We look forward to working with the Boston Red Sox and building on our previous successes with the Mass. Lottery to produce a truly unique product."

Players can learn more about the lottery game by reading the back of the Red Sox Instant Win ticket, by picking up a brochure at any Lottery sales agent location or by visiting the Web site, www.masslottery.com.

About Massachusetts State Lottery
The Massachusetts State Lottery was established by the Legislature in 1971 to raise revenues that are distributed to the 351 cities and towns of Massachusetts. Regarded as one of the most successful lotteries in the world and a leader in lottery gaming innovation and sales in the United States, the Massachusetts Lottery had total sales revenues of $4.4 billion in Fiscal Year 2005 and returned $936 million in proceeds to the state and municipalities-both the highest marks ever since its creation nearly 34 years ago.

The Lottery has a network of more than 7,600 private sector sales agents across the state who sell Lottery products, including instant "scratch" tickets, jackpot game tickets and Keno. Headquartered in Braintree, and with four branch offices across the state, the Massachusetts Lottery is a division of the State Treasury.

I read this in my Globe this morning and was irate. The lottery itself sickens me, but now I see these leagues joining forces with it,and it really pisses me off.
