So I bought three items off ebay that were shipped to me from three different sellers via the USPS. I have confirmation numbers for all three. All of the numbers say that the packages were delivered to my house on the 16th, but they weren't. I called the national number and local post office today to file a claim. The only thing that sucks about where I live is that it's not actually a mailman that delivers the mail, it's a local person employed by the post office that drives around and puts all of the mail in these little boxes at the end of our block. I'm frickin' pissed right now and none of these items were insured (I paid $88.20 combined for all three). They are conducting an investigation now. Anyone with any advice on how to resolve this?

If you go in person to complain, I would wear a kevlar vest. Some employees tend to handle complaints rather poorly.

I'm not sure what the P.O. procedure is on pkgs that were delivered by probably stolen, if this were UPS, Fed Ex or DHL they would be responsible since there was no signature.

I had sent money orders once, and they took 4 weeks to reach Mississippi...I went to the post office and they told me a small percentage of mail gets eaten by their own machines! Of course they don't advertise this fact....

Tough luck, pags. I can honestly say that in my entire life I have not had one single item lost in the mail either to or from me. Maybe I'm the exception and not the rule.

Anyhoo, I advise you to start out calmly and give them a chance to return the civility when you go to the PO. You can always get pissed if you need to later. People like helping other people; they don't like being screamed at and told what to do. The old "gather more flies with honey than with vinegar" adage.

Let us know how it comes out, Bro.

good point journeyman...all of the fed ex, ups, dhl stuff gets delivered directly to my house from those guys...it's just my frickin' mail that goes in these little mailboxes out on our block...the lady said they could be in the the wrong box...I doubt they were stolen as I live in a gated community and was home all day that day, but anything can happen...funny thing is too that all three packages were scanned at the same time that day (3:17, 3:17 and 3:18), saying they were delivered...I had them check the shelves at the local post office but as of today they couldn't find anything...seven years I've lived at this house and have never had problems getting mail/ packages delivered until now...

good advice el iguana...I will definitely do that and agree with your logic here...funny thing is that I found out today that I won over $800 in the 11 different office pools I'm in, but I'm more pissed about the packages being lost right now...lol...

Make sure you receive written documentation from the P.O. regarding the results of the investigation.

If they can't locate the packages, file a dispute with your c.c. company, telling them that you never received the packages.

But if you paid via other means, you are SOL.

Sounds like you got ripped off by either the local postman or people casing out your roadside box. Post office will do nothing. Has happened to me in the past. Found out (beacuse of the incident) that delivery confirmation is worthless as well. It only confirms that the package was scanned in at the local depot/post office. It doesn't mean it was delivered to the house..Bullshit but true

Hell! Go buy yourself 3 more of whatever it was on ebay!

Pags, I just know that almost every situation in my life where I lost my cool I regretted it later. I know the post office employees didn't lose your package on purpose, and they will be more likely to help a nice guy find his package than to go the extra mile for some raving a-hole who might be making the whole thing up just to try to scam them (they've probably had people do that before).

Again, let us know how it comes out. Oh yeah, nice job in the office pools!

Have used the US Postal service for ALL kinds of things down through my life, and have Only lost one package. That package actually showed up about a week later in Miami of ALL places. The US Postal service will find these sooner or laters. I know thats not much help at the present time, but give them a chance to track down the tracking numbers.

Could have someone else got these from you box? Maybe the Us Postal service did in fact make the drop off there and someone else took possesion from that point?
Sorry to hear about your misfortune and hopefully it will be alright in time.

Same exact thing happened to me. I prefer anything else, FedEx, UPS or DHL. The tracking system the post office uses stops once it gets to your local office. What happens between there and your drop is not tracked. Could have been placed in wrong address, or someone dishonest between here and there. With my case it was some sunglasses. I think I saw the mailman wearing the same exact pair a week later. I just contacted the company, they put a tracer out, but sent me anothe pair anyway. Now my mailman buddy and me are matching.

Extra costs, as in certified delivery and certified requiring signature are also available.

It sure does get eaten by the DBCS machines on occasion, then you get what's left of it in a plastic body bag if identifiable. They take care not to run things like SS checks thru the machines for that reason. When at the PO, I once saw a letter that took something like 20 years to get where it was going, it was stamped " found in supposedly empty equipment".

Sounds like you have a rural carrier, they are USPS employees but don't wear a uniform, and may be using a personal vehicle.

Fed-ex "misdirects" ( great postal term) things as well. My carrier can't even put the mail in the proper box in a condo situation with gang boxes.

I'm not sure what to do, I worked as a mailhandler basically unloading trucks and such, never dealt with the public.

I don't miss working there !

guys, thanks for all of the input and advice...I was able to get a hold of a supervisor down there and he was the most helpful of anyone I had talked to yet...I'm going to go see him tommorrow morning...like El Iguana said, it's best that I remain calm at this point...that will be the plan...also, like OM talked about these "delivery confirmation numbers" are truly worthless as the packages are only tracked as far as the local post office...I live in a rural neighborhood and I don't have actual mailmen deliver the mail...it's a USPS employee, but they drive around in a mini-van and put the stuff in all of the boxes...usually, with packages, they will leave you a key to open the package box, but if the item(s) are too big, they will leave them on your door step...the front door of my house is actually on the side of my house, making it pretty hard to steal stuff...and I was home all that day...still could have been stolen I guess...I'm thinking the carrier either never got it there or it was delivered to the wrong address...I just wish I was more on top of it as it's been 12 days since the packages were supposed to be delivered (and I just got a hold of the eBayers about three days ago to get the tracking numbers)...I've never had a problem before, so I didn't keep close tabs on them...damn...will keep you guys updated though...

OK, so I met with the head supervisor lady today...before that I talked to some of my neighbors and apparently many people have been having trouble getting all of our mail (one lady next to me was missing two checks that were mailed to her)...apparently this guy was put on suspension, put through a bunch of training classes and then put back out into the field (union crap, they can't just fire your ass)...then this happens...I am going to meet with a postal inspector tommorrow...the guy got interviewed by the supervisor today and he got scared shittless...wouldn't be suprised if he was wearing my stuff delivering the mail...it's just amazing guys like this get so many chances...unbelievable...

I'm tottaly BS man. Everything is dissapearing. My netflix and gamefly never seem to make it out of the post office. I have to wait until thursday for my next movie to ship, even though I sent it friday and its just supposed to be a 2 day turn around. Gamefly? Forget it. This is the second game in a row I had to report missing. They don't go for that, so guess what it stays in que. Ya, I really want to keep magnolia and king kong. They both suck.

I dated a girl who admits she steals from the post office which is where she works. I know damn well whats happening to my envelops.

I've seen guys there they've been trying to fire for so long that they retire ( w/pension) before they get fired. I never saw anybody steal, though !

While I worked at PO (nearly 7 years), there were numerous known thieves.

One particular guy, each Christmas, would back his car to the dock and pick and choose what he wanted...actually named what he was doing as doing his Christmas shopping.

Fortunately, he was finally caught and fired. The guy was allowed to receive his pension, but was not allowed to return to work.

I witnessed many amazing employment miracles during my years at the P.O.
