The NFL will limit TD Celebrations 'delaying the game too long'

An NFL competition committee proposal designed to curtail celebrations does not, in any way, attempt to eliminate all forms of players celebrating touchdowns.

Players can still spike the ball in the end zone, spin it on the ground, and dunk it over the goal post if they like (and are able to). They also can dance and even leap into the stands.

What they can't do is use the ball as a prop in their routine.

Nor can they do any celebrating on the ground or be part of any group effort. And when the referee warns them that their celebration has gone on too long and needs to stop, they must stop … or be penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct that would be assessed on the ensuing kickoff.

This is starting to spound like a figure skating event, what the are allowed to do, what is allowed to qualify as a legitimate celebration :missingte

If they really want to speed up the game quit diagnosing every minute detail! And FIGURE OUT A BETTER WAY TO REVIEW THESE 'NOT SO INSTANT' REPLAYS!

That's a joke. 15 seconds delay at the most. What about the 3 - 4 minutes delay on the instant replay that the ref's take.

Thanks.

Great! As if the refs don't have enough controversial, game-changing calls to make, now they will be forced to make controversial "excessive celebration" calls that will surely be second-guessed and criticized.

If they wanna save time, maybe they should consider not cutting to a commercial after each score, then after the kickoff, after punts, etc etc etc.

Amen.

Nothing is worse than sitting through 7 minutes of commercials, returning for a kickoff that is downed in the end zone, then breaking for another 6 minutes of commercials.

Nothing was classier than Barry Sanders handing the ball to the ref.

i can see the first challange flag thrown by a coach, saying the celebration was too long.

I have to admit, I'm not saddened by this ruling. These NFL celebrations have gotten completely out of hand. I'm not talking about the spike over the goal post or the Lambeau leap, but these grown men doing the "worm" in the endzone or putting (as in golf) the football with the pylon are completely ridiculous.

These idiots spend more time choreographing an endzone celebration than they do studying film. Enough already! Grow up... Act like you've been there before.

I wonder all the time why coaches don't demand this from their players...it's as if they cannot enforce their own players to act civilized.

Another thing Grant did is they would practice how to stand in formation for the playing of the Anthem.

They would be lined up in a perfectly straight line with their helmets tucked under their shoulders.

Then you would look at the other sideline and players were all over the place.

I hated the Vikes, but they really lost their identity when Grant left and they went into the dome.

Score should be like any other play, once the play is over as evidenced by the referee rasing the arms, the playclock resets and begins to run.

If you celenrate, you may miss the conversion attempt. Otherwise it is included in the normal gametime.

I would actually like to see the TD worth 7 points and the teams need to run a play (not kick an extra point) for the bonus point.

just an idea.
