I remember that Ind - Mich matchup in 76 ... Wilkerson gets knocked out early in the game and had to go to the hospital and I think Ind still won by 18 pts ...

That was one rock solid team .. not flashy but tough as shit and certainly has to be ranked in the Top 5 teams of all time ... I dont know for sure .. guessing 32-0 if my memory is functioning

Buckner / Benson / Wilkerson / Abernathy / May ... was that the starting 5 IU fans??? I rememer the yr before May broke his arm in the regls vs Kentucky or maybe 2 yrs straight of unbeaten marks

very good Doc...nice to see you branching out of politics!

that was the five.

Here's one for you, on those legendary NC State teams, they had a future MLB pitcher, who played in the World Series, and actually got a base hit as a pitcher in the World Series for an American League team...

anyone remember details on that great S Carolina team in the early 70's .. had a kid named Kevin Joyce and lost to Maryland in the ACC Finals

I dont remember the details but that was back when only 16 teams went and trying to recall the details .. think Maryland had Len Elmore but could be wrong

shit ... I remember that one ... I know it wasnt Tom Burleson!!!

Who was it? was it a guy named Stoddard??

yes, it was 'Big Foot' Tim Stoddard, he was the first pitcher in the AL to get a base hit (1979 WS) after the DH rule was implimented in 1973

I don't think it was Maryland in the Finals vs S.C.

Elmore was with Maryland then yes, along with Tom McMillan and John Lucas...Maryland was stuck with the unenviable task of trying to get past those NC State teams to advance on to the tournament, which they did one year, only becase NC State was on probation....

The following year NC State beat the #3 Terrapins 103-100 in 3 overtimes in the ACC tournament in Greensboro NC (where else?), to advance on and eventually win it all...while Maryland watched the tournament from the outside.
