JC--Being naive, what precisely occurs and is the purpose of bills that come before the House sub-Committee?

Thanks in advance

Supposedly, this is just a hearing and not a "mark up." That's good. But every event is one step closer. I would rather hear they scheduled a hearing in June or July.

They'll take written and oral testimony, maybe recommend some changes to the full judiciary committee.

........and we all will be made aware of these changes, correct?

Thanks and sorry for being a pain in the ass with the questions.

I think they only make actual changes in a "mark up" hearing which this is not.

Even though I'm not a citizen I already sent an email addressed to the chair of judiciary.

"Dear Mr. Sensenbrenner,

I understand that you will, in the near future, be considering the Leach bill, H.R. 4411
The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 and The Goodlatte bill, H.R. 4777, The Internet Gambling Prohibition Act.

As a Canadian poker player I have spent many wonderful hours playing poker with, and enjoying the companionship of, Americans when travelling in the US and when Americans have been visitors to my community. I consider poker a quintessentially American game, enjoyed by Presidents as well as the general public. In fact it has been remarked that while the Russian generals play chess American generals play poker, which may account for a fundamental difference in their character.

For the last 8 years it has been possible to play poker on the Internet and enjoy this wonderful American game while playing simultaneously with players from the US, Australia, Europe etc. all at one table.

I understand that if the above bills pass through Congress that Americans will be deprived of the ability to join these international players in the most American of games. This I find particularly ironic.

As a non-citizen I cannot expect you to give any weight to my note but wished to write pointing out that the international community of players will miss their American colleagues.

Sincerely,"

Not good news.......does anyone know what the earliest date that this legislation can be brought into law? Also, if it does hit, I hope some of the smaller books will be able to sustain major withdrawal requests!

America would be better off without poker

It will also be better off without fast foods, alcohol, cigarretes, chicken meat etc. Wait wait, while we're at it, it will be better off without men over 6.8". scratch them too. All those are pretty much as valid as what you just said.

Thanks JayC for keeping us up to date on this matter.

Its just a matter of time until they do"something" to this. The real question is will certain shops be able to stand MASS withdrawls, if and when it gets close.
