Wow, so much has changed. In this game, no shot clock, no 3 point shots. If there were 3 pointers in this game NC ST would have won by 20 (I think thats how they won the ACC tourney that year). Ive seen at least 5 shots go in that were shot from beyond 3 point range. Also, in '83 there was no double bonus after 10 fouls, it was always one and one (the way it should be). With all these differences, there is one thing that has remained a constant. Which proves one of my thoughts wrong.

BILLY PACKER DOESNT KNOW HOW TO SHUT THE F*CK UP!!!!!

I always thought Billy Packer got more annoying in the last few years. Im watching this game and Packer doesnt shut his friggin mouth. Its like he gets paid by the word for christ sakes.

Every single game that NC State won in the NCAA's that year was a miracle. And I agree, the game was great with the one and one free throw rule. Without it, NC State had no chance.

They changed that rule, the very next year!

They changed the rule because games took 3 hours to play. I miss Jimmy V, one of the best speeches I ever hear was at the ESPYs right before he passed. He may be gone, but never forgotten.

And the main reason they won that was because the ACC had the 3 pointer and much if the rest of NCAA did not. They did a great job shooting the ball. Also Sidney Lowe was awesome from the foul line. If I recall correctly he was something like 44 for 45 for te tourney from the foul line.

"Never Give Up"

Valvano actually gave a "Never give up" speech months before that one. It was on court prior to an NC State game versus Duke. NC State was having a terrible year and I layed double digits on Duke with a local. Once he started with "never, ever, ever, give up", I knew NC State would battle to the end and my wager had no chance. This was in the days prior to offshore books. It was a late afternoon game and the office was closed.

I talked about my family, my family's so important. People think I have courage. The courage in my family are my wife Pam, my three daughters, here, Nicole, Jamie, LeeAnn, my mom, who's right here too. And...that screen is flashing up there thirty seconds like I care about that screen right now, huh? I got tumors all over my body. I'm worried about some guy in the back going thirty seconds, huh? You got a lot, hey va fa napoli, buddy. You got a lot.

i had a guy come into the bar where i was working in framingham ma claiming to be the white guard for houston, and he looked just like him only 15 years older-
his car had broken down and he was carrying the bald spare to get it filled rather than buying a new tire-he was chain smoking and had five vodka tonics in about 20 mins-really fukin sad
