Three games come to mind. Would like everyone's opinion on which game was officiated the worst.

1.) Rencent Superbowl - Seattle vs. Pittsburg
2.) Iowa VS Florida college football bowl game 2006
3.)Illinois VS. Washington this year 2nd round of NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Please feel free to include any other games that may stand out in your minds.

Thanks

You guys must not remember what happened to Iowa down in Florida in the 2006 Outback bowl, I think it was the Outback bowl.

Yeah, we remember. Florida kicked their ass, led 24-7 at halftime and never trailed. So what?

I vote #1 and here's why

#2 was bad (especially that onside kick at the end - but even then we have no guarantee Iowa goes down and scores a game tying TD) as was #3 but in both of these games we had college officials working them - officials who were NOT the "creme de la creme" of their sport. they were highly rated ones (we can argue about the IA/FL game - but still they were rated high enuf to do a bowl game) but NOT professional refs

think about it this way. the refs who worked the bowl game are STILL several nothces BELOW the SB XL refs. i EXPECT more from an NFL ref than college (just like i expect more from a college ref than HS and so on). for those of you with kids - when your 8 year old plays, say, basketball, you don't expect the officials to be the same quality as you would get in a HS or college game. if they aren't very good you aren't happy but you understand because of the level of games they are working is probably pretty much the same as the quality of players in the game.

There are like 20 NFL ref crews in the sport. to work a NFL playoff game you have to be VERY highly rated - higher than your peers or else you DO NOT work the game - you sit at home and watch the playoff game on TV

The SB refs were the HIGHEST RATED officials the NFL has - or else they wouldn't be working the game - someone else would

Because they are (perceived to be) the VERY BEST OFFICIALS out there i EXPECT more from them and when they fail to deliver they deserve the most criticism

this is the HIGHEST profile sporting event of the year. people who normally don't give a "F" about the NFL watch THIS game - which is usually the most watched event of the entire year (normally - i know this year the world cup final game might be - but i a normal year it is the SB game)

the NFL must have the best refs working because it is so high profile and for the refs to simply make some beyond awful and inexcusible calls is an embarrassment to the league and EVERY SINGLE NFL ref

so because the expectation level is higher for an NFL ref - as it should - and because they failed to deliver that goal - i vote for #1 - the SB refs

actually that would not be the 1990 title game where UNLV ran Duke off the court and NO ONE can complain about the officiating in a 30-point blowout - but you might be thinking of the 1991 game - the semi-final game which UNLV lost by 2

second worst ever was Fla /Fla St , right Coach?

Journeyman, you are DAMN FRIGGIN RIGHT! Swindle In The Swamp. The Always Cheating Conference refs will NEVER, NEVER call another game at Florida Field. If I see Jack Childress in public, I will become part of Gator Lore. LT:finger:

funny how I was on the wrong side of the first two, no bet on the 3rd. The way Iowa came back and to just have it taken away at the end there really pissed me off, but I had written that one off. I was too devistated by the SB, to even blame the refs for a while. Sucks but I guess it is part of the game. If I had to choose it would be the Iowa game, still cannot believe it. The SB was a lot of 50:50 calls and some blatent bad calls, but no way to tell how much it would have affected the game. that is from a hardcore seahawks fan too.

No question about it...It would have to be the Super Bowl. Even dropping as many passes as Seattle did, they would have won the game by 14 points minimum with a fairly officiated game. Every single time they scored or got inside the 5 yard line, there was a terrible flag thrown. Plus did you hear big bens comments on letterman when asked if he thought that he had gotten the ball over the plain of the goalline on the 3rd and goal play. He laughed and said "of course not." He admitted the ball was on his hip and cant believe it was called a td. That along with the 2 td's by seattle that were taken away is a 21 point swing.

Plus, On top of all that, i guess Pitts just played a perfect game. No penalties after the 7 min mark of the first quarter for the rest of the game. For a team that plays as physical as Pitts, that is impossibe to believe and a complete joke.

The nfl wanted cowher, bettis, and their owner Rooney to get their long awaited title

When a team is outmanned such as Seattle was, thay will tend to commit more penalties, due to strenght and speed issues they will be out of position more frequently than a superior team and to compete they will cheat more, Seattle just got caught be referee's.

I doubt Big Ben knows if the ball crossed the plane of the goal line, more the slow motion replay. Ben was getting tackled by a lot of players, he was fighting for his life. He would have no idea if the ball crossed the goal line. The replay clearly illustrates the ball may have crossed it. It was very close. In my opinion there was not indusputable evidence to reverse the call.

Bluemyboy,

Please elaborate on the Blantant bad calls. I can think of one. The illegal block by Hassleback when he was trying to make a tackle on the interception return.
