I thought the Tennessee guy did an incredible job bringing that program back from being one of the worst in the country.

Roy Williams lost like 98.5% of his scoring and his top 7 guys.

He grabbed a 3 seed (most think they should have gotten a 2 over Tenn). I doubt anything has ever been done like that

There were other good candidates but nobody more deserving

Thad Matta?

Thad did a great job as well, but he did have 4 seniors starting, one of the best JUCO recruits coming off the bench, a JR McDonalds All American(Harris) on the bench.

Jim Larranaga of George Mason would get my vote if it were taken today.

Williams is a joke, guy should have 7 titles instead of just the 1 the refs handed him.

Not to mention a banged up USC Trojan team beat the crap out of them. Tim Floyd 3 times the coach Roy ever thought of being.

Jay Wright should've won. Lost best player at the beginning of the season, Shumpter.

Worst coach, Collier at Nebraska.

I see your point, but you can't say that a coach doesn't deserve it just because he has seniors in his lineup. They were picked 6th - 7th in the Big 10, and Dials didn't even make preseason 1st team Big 10 (and he wound up POY).

Besides, Harris only averaged about 7+ minutes a game and Mayes (JUCO recruit) didn't even play in the final 15 games or so...

IMO, I think Matta outperformed expectations moreso than Roy.

What about Danny Nee (now EX-Duquesne coach). I would think he gets the nod...
