mrs vvv and I have lunch at Chicago Joe's every time we visit Las Vegas. I have been there so many times over the last 25 years that our "regular" waiter was suprised to learn that we do not live in Las Vegas!

A trip to Vegas, to me, is not complete without lunch at Chicago Joe's. In fact, mrs vvv and I were just this week talking about our next Vegas trip and lunch at Chicago Joe's.

I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys authentic Italian food, reasonable prices, unique atmosphere and the best creamy garlic salad dressing ever.

Battista's is still around, but it was bought out by Harrah's and will be part of the redevelopment of that block.

Golden Steer is still around as far as I know.

Same location (an old house) since 1975, I believe. It is located a few blocks from The Plaza downtown. Can't remember the exact address, just look it up. Sits on a one-way street so I always have to go a block or two past and turn. Plenty of free parking in rear.

Wish I was on my way there right now!!

Don't feel bad...I've been in Vegas for 15 years now and I don't know where it's at either.

Thanks for the heads ups about Batista's though...I've got to get back there one more time before they close the place.

Chicago Joes is on Rancho Rd. In around the corner of Washington. You almost have to know its there. They have more people coming from way away from where there at than people in the neighborhood. I go to Bono's myself as its closer to where I live. Nothing like a Vienna Beef hot dog ( I perfer David Bergs) with mustard, onions, cumcumber, tomato and celery salt.

Or a snap dog with just ketchup or an Italian beef dry for me with juice on the side smothered in gardenias with a heap of fries on the side. OHH and dont forget the polishes too.

That's the one I was thinking of..... Amlees on Sunset and Sandhill is my favorite dining place. Gourmet dining ! Same menu specialties as Chins plus a few more. If you go there, don't miss their Crispy duck or lobster in white sauce !

Sugarbear, what the hell is a SNAP DOG? never heard of it.
the funny thing is there are places in Chicago if you were to ask for ketchup on a hotdog they would laugh you out of the place. if you insist they would throw you out on your head. now i live in a place where mayo is put on hotdogs by the locals. i shake my head in disbelief everytime i see this travesty.

Sugarbear, I can't believe you mentioned Bono's. Used to go there when they were on Eastern in that stand alone place, and then moved to the back of the mall. Where are they now? I haven't tried Chicago Joe's, but the Bootlegger used to be great for Italian food, and moved out to around Warm Spings Rd.

A hot dog "snaps" when you break it in two because of the casing that contains the meat. I think it's called a natural casing when it snaps like that.
