Probably my single most favorite record in all of sports... Im not a big Dimaggio fan but can well remember Pete Rose's run at the fabled streak. Even though im a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan, i still cant forgive Gene Garber and the other long since forgotten pitchers on that hot July night so many years ago, that they stopped Pete's streak at 44...
One of my most memorable quotes was about Joe D's streak, it had captured the imagination of the entire nation and it was said that people on the dusty streets of Montana would stop each other and say, "Did he get one today" and people would just know..
Now as another season is open us (thank you Lord) one can only wonder how far Jimmy Rollins can get.. He does have an active streak going, somewhere in the 30's, somebody help me on this one..
How will it be treated by the media and baseball in general, if Jimmy reaches Pete's national league record of 44..
This and the possible chase of a .400 season are 2 of my favorites, just wondering, whats yours..
Here is to Jimmy getting a hit monday and the entire first week, then maybe we can sweep the talk of steroids off the table..
