teams shouldnt even be allowed to participate in the postseason without a 500 or better record, but has anyone ever won it all with a sub 500 regular season record?

Steelers 05-06 squeaked in, although above 500.

Back in the 6 team days of NHL i guess a 4th & last place playoff
qualifier won it at least once. They'd only need to win 2 series.
And the record would likely be around 500, if not less.

This year, there are 2-3 hockey teams that have a LEGIT shot at accomplishing this feat in my estimation.

Didnt one of the Minneota Twin teams that won it all have a .500 record?

The '87 Twins were 85-77; don't think any team with a worse record has ever won it all in the four major sports.

Although they both lost, two Cinderella like runs in somewhat recent years...

Minnesota North Stars lead by Jon Casey losing to the might Pittsburgh Penguins. Brian Bellows committing the ultimate hockey curse after winning the Campbell Conference.

Anaheim Mighty Ducks losing to the New Jersey Devils.

The Twins were a horrible road team that year (87), and true to form won every post season game at home.

Was it that Colorado team in 1990? I don't remember the record but I know they had a loss and a tie. Lost to the Jeff George led Illini. McCartney was the coach and Bieniemy was sick that year
