If one cannot respect and admire Varitek, obviously you must have some false agenda.
I think he's acted like a girl. That's all.
Nothing I have seen to admire and respect. He's a slightly above average MLB catcher but that's as far as it goes. Nothing he's done or said has struck me as worthy of admiration or respect.
Here's a post made at a different forum at the end of 2004 that I thought was dead-on:
"I'm really beginning to believe this guy is among the most overrated players in the game.
His home/road splits are quite interesting:
Home: .340/.433/.541/.973
Road: .260/.356/.433/.789
So are his righty/lefty splits
vs. lefty: .354/.432/.557/1.009
vs. righty: .276/.378/.446/.823
What this basically tells me is that this guy mashes the ball at Fenway when he's batting right-handed, and besides that, he's not much of an offensive threat at all.
Nice stats from this weekend's important series with the Yankees: 0/10, 0 BB, 0 RBI, 0 Runs, 8 K's... 4 of those 8 K's were on 3 pitches.
Even better are his numbers at Yankee Stadium this year: 0/30 with 2 walks and 16 strikeouts!!! That's utterly pathetic (I don't think it includes his 0/4 with 3 K's today, either).
Defensively, he may call a good game, I don't know, there's not much of a way to judge that. But his CS% is pathetic season after season.
Clubhouse leader that's important to his team? Maybe. But he's not much of a player IMO"
