A friend of mine is going on a trip to the Divi Carina in St. Croix of the Carribean. Does anyone know the blackjack rules in the casino there? I know the rules are generally worse in casinos outside the US but I thought I'd ask if anyone has been to this place or knows.

One difference I noticed at several casinos in Caribbean (Aruba/St Marten) is that the dealer will deal out the players hands as well as dealing himself ONLY ONE CARD UP. After all players have either stayed good or busted, the dealer will then deal himself his remaining cards. So instead of being dealt 2 cards in the rotation with everyone else (one up and one down like the states) the dealer gets only one up with everyone else.

I have also come across casinos in Caribbean where the dealer can hit on a soft 17. I believe that gives the house a bigger edge ........

This sounds like the "no peek" type of rules and it can be a killer. Because the dealer doesn't check for a blackjack prior to everyone's action. So if they sit there with a 10 or an Ace, they can still draw a 10 or Ace for a blackjack. It changes the strategy more than you would think and gives the house a bigger edge for sure. Hitting the Soft 17 sucks enough, and it's much worse with No Peek.

It also doesn't allow you to catch a peak at the dealer's down card. I have caught a "peek" thousands of times before. Some are accidental, some are not.
