it is POURING - heavy heavy heavy rain - sideways at times here in so cal. IF they play the dodgers/braves game (and i put it at 50/50 they do) it will be played in cold, nasty, rainy, windy weather. i already played U7.5 - just thought you would like to know

Dodgers/Braves U7.5 -120

why under? Rain and wind favors over

-Fielding fly balls or line drives with wind and rain is tough.
-Pitching to precise locations when the balls is wet leads to mistake pitches and walks
-Rain delays will favor the hitters...pitchers have to sit out, get -rewarmed...possibly a new pitcher brought in because he sat for too long
-Poor field conditions, slip and falls
-Throwing from the field with a wet ball to 1st base, cut off men, etc.

Hitters just make contact and run rabbit run. We saw it in the Chisox game on opening night.

Same concept in football. Tough to pass in the rain, and throw accurately so teams have to keep it on the ground. which leads to under in football.

Am I missing something here?

good info winky. Usually I would jump on this under esp. since I already liked it, but one thing scares me. If the game is delayed and Atlanta has to go to the pen it could get ugly. As for that matter, both pens got a lot of work in that 11-10 pitchers duel yesterday.

I will pass on this one, but think i might increase my dodger bet. Good luck, Ill be rooting for ya

cold and wet is not a good condition for hitters. Inside pitches sting, ball dont jump of the bat. (reason Texas is such a high scoring place). And, although I couldnt prove it, umps seem to widen the strike zone when it is ugly. They want to get the game in officially, and they want out of the weather as much as the players.

I missed a key word when I read winkys post. "COLD".

I was expecting 70's with rain. In that case I'd say over. But cold does make a huge difference. Thanks for clarifying.

On a side, cold and wet is also bad condition for pitchers. Arms tighten up, difficult for them to get loose and throw their typical velocity. Rain makes it difficult to be accurate within the strike zone. But you are definitely right, ball does not jump off the bat and stings in cold weather.

Weather seems to favor overs IMO. The biggest reason is that the pitchers can't get loose. Take the White Sox game opening night.

box, I didnt even realize it was you that asked the question. Of course you as well as anyone would know since you played the game. I loved this under with those 2 starters. I look for big things from Penny this year, and Smoltz is well Smoltz. I didnt know about the weather, the reason I passed was yesterday's game. A lot of pitchers. Pens are hurting a bit. I do like LA in this spot as I feel I have a major edge in the bullpens and a home dog.

good luck and thanks for sharing

Braves bullpen looks a little ragged to me. They certainly gave up a bunch of runs yesterday. Yes i know yesterday is gone, but its the same bullpen.

This type of weather should be a hinderace to the pitchers more so than hitters. We will see more walks, and more balls dropping in around the outfield. Hopefully, we can get a delay and get Smoltz out early, as I have the Dodgers and the OVER. We all know how awful Atlanta's pen is.

i'd have to see the historical data on how cold windy weather affects games, but i remember playing in shitty weather like this and seeing the game go both ways (although i'd lean toward the under). Visibility is shittier for the hitters, and yes for the fielders as well but the runners are also slower in this weather, so if the ball's hit to the left side of the infield, you have more time to make the play.

Definitely seen it go over as well though, since fielding becomes an issue; I just don't remember balls being struck as cleanly in cold rainy weather as i did otherwise.
Maybe my memory is shot to hell though. show me that historical data goddamnit
