Does anyone have any numbers on betting on/against teams on a 3-4-5+ game winning/losing streak? Any thoughts? Thanks!

From Gambling Times

I read this system in Gambling Times in the early 80's;

Bet on a "home" team to extend 3 game win streak to 4 games.
Bet on road or home team to extend 5 game win streak to 6 games.

I haven't kept the numbers on this for a long time. Last year the system wasn't very good. When I first picked up on the system, it was golden for years.

Hope that helps

i'm sorry i don't have any "stats" for betting for/against streaks...

but if i can offer some advice...

you have to handicap each game on its own merits, regardless of what "streaks" the teams are on.

it's not all that uncommon for a team to get a couple straight wins due to their opponents having a terrible bullpen and blowing the game late...couple that with a third game being won by maybe some unearned runs and there you go, a 3-game "winning streak"

it doesn't mean that team improved its pitching or batting stats, they just got a little lucky. over 162 games, that WILL happen, both FOR and AGAINST throughout the course of a season.

EACH game must be analyzed on its own merits. EACH team must be handicapped based on their current pitching, batting and defensive stats...not just on their recent W's and L's.

if a team has won 3 or 4 straight, but they've been pitching AND batting worse in those last 3 or 4 games than they were before...do you really think this warrants betting on them? just because they are technically in a "winning streak"???? do you see my point?

I myself play streaks of winners and losers. When a team was won 3 straight i bet on them to win until the streak breaks. Same way on a team that has lost 3 straight i bet against them to lose until they winn one. Have caught some HUGE streaks in my day too. Season way to early for this to happen but i will start as soon as one appears, either way.

Sometimes you catch some BIG chalks in this role also, thats the only part that i DONT like as Chalks is very very bitter when it looses.

Insiders - how did this idea fare last year?

It won, how much exactly i dont know? I am not as mathmatical as most here, and i play UP when things call for it too. Caught long streaks with both sides of this. Caught one against KC that was GREAT, but HUGE CHALK lay every time out!

I am one of few that DONT believe in the 1-2% theroy, as i know bookmakers love someone that deposit large number and bet like that.
It is the way that most here will tell you to play, and it might be for the faint of heart, but it aint for me. I believe in Play up when situation calls for it and press into streaks behind free-roll of that streak. Sure the last bet is ALways a Big one, but you might have won lots of Big ones before that happens. As they say too each their own !

Thanks Insiders, I was thinking of researching something along the lines of what you discribed. I thought of this idea when my buddies and I were talking about how great it would have been to pick up Oakland's 20-something game winning streak in Aug/Sep '02. Thanks again.

you WILL be able to take advantage of situations like that if you use proper handicapping techniques. when teams show sudden and dramatic improvements (or decreases) in pitching or hitting (or both)...the public is always late to pick up on this...

this is where smart handicappers make their money. they notice these improvements sooner (because they're analyzing the STATS that matter, not meaningless "streaks") and they're already betting on those teams.

you don't bet on/against a team just because they're winning/losing...you bet on/against a team because they're currently playing better/worse then they were before and the bookmaker's lines aren't in agreement with what those CURRENT stats should justify.

i know this, ever since 1997 and the cubs started 0-14, and i jumped on board betting against them solid frm liek the 3rd game on, my main trend at the start of seasons only that i look for is finding any team that starts 0-3 or so and betting against them religiously till they win a game.

Every now and then there are some teams that will start 0-8, 0-10..

Its a proven system!
