Dell outsources their "technical" support to India. Dell also has one of the WORST warranties for computers.

For the value, check out TigerDirect.com for their refurbished e-Machines, which are made by Gateway. You can get a AMD processor, 512 MB Ram, 160 GB HD, DVD +/- RW for $349.99, with a 90 day warranty.

Good luck!

Alienware’s Silent Liquid Cooling technology includes a number of key features for added safety and reliability:

Dual-pump design provides redundancy for enhanced long-term reliability

Uses built-in, three-speed fan control for the quietest operation possible

Reduces dust accumulation on internal components, resulting in a longer lifespan and cleaner overall system

Proprietary power control board constantly monitors liquid temperature, with emergency alarm and automatic shut down features

CPU retention clip places even pressure across the CPU for extra protection

the "bad service" is not exclusive of dell, EVERYONE can google it and come up with hundreds of complaints of every make imaginable

is it a desktop or laptop we are talking about?

alienware is very good but they make "state of the art" machines and might be quite a bunch to pay if all you want is a basic computer

IBM is very good, they recently sold their laptop line to a company called "lenovo" so the quality of the laptops might go down/stay the same (they are awesome right now)

sony is good but expensive, I havent heard wonders about sony either

if its a desktop.....your best bet is to get a "mom /pop" store to build you one (thats just my opinion) and it WILL be more expensive than buying a normal computer because the price of a windows xp license is higher retail than OEM

Apple is easily the best...you won't need repairs either. Dell is crap. I have an HP pavillion and an apple powerbook and the apple is amazing.

They are owned by Dell.
Anyway, eMachines for a desktop was the right choice. If you pay attention and get a configuration that is easily extensible, it's the best quality/price ratio available.

You want a good deal and for $400 anymore you can get a GREAT name brand machine at Wal-mart or Staples that's fast with a big HDD and might even cut DVDs if you catch the right sale.

I just bought 3 or 4 puters for my office over the last 6 months and didn't pay over $369 for any of them. HP, E-machine, Compaq... all of them work just fine and usually come loaded with enough software to keep you going for a long long time.

It's a cut throat businiess these days so just keep your eyes open and find the deals. Take advantage of that. That's my best advice.

IBM machines are at the level apple was at about a year ago. Apple/Macs are much more advanced.

alienware is for high speed video gaming....they need the coolent system for all of the shit that is running when u run games...

Solid PC's for home office use - Dell, IBM (lets not get into customer service)

Video Gaming/Lots of graphics needed - Alienware

Designing shit, photoshopping, creative projects - apple

now that you can put windows on macs now, it's a no brainer to get an apple.
you get the kickass machine, a great operating system, and if you have to use some crap windows stuff, you have windows to fall back on.
