Rose got to 44 games and I can still Garber striking him out ....

Which is more likely in our lifetime???

* 57 game hitting streak
* 1.11 Season ERA to break Gibsons mark
* .400 Season batting average
* 30 game winner

I would bet .400 as no one has come close to Gibsons mark and anyone gets near 50 games and the media coverage will be a zoo ....

If they would pitch to Bonds at least twice a night and Barry commits to bunting the ball down the 3rd baseline at least once a game because of the shift. Barry could have a 120 game hitting streak.

Won't see a 30-game winner, I guess .400 is most likely with some guy that hits singles, walks, and has filthy speed.

Choptalk:

and if they gave Bonds a hit for everytime he shot up w/steroids that would also bump him up over .400

I think of great athletes in my lifetime: Walter Payton / Larry Bird / Tiger Woods / Tony Gwynn .... all did it w/class and without the help of steroids

Bonds "Image" is as low as it gets in the history of baseball and when Vin Scully says he hopes he doesnt have to broadcast Bonds breaking Aaron's mark I think that speaks volumes

I think out of those a .400 season is most likely. We'll never see a 57 game hitting streak. I don't see a pitcher winning 30 games with the days of 5 man rotations.

The only way someon e wins 30 these days is if a team has someone pitch in releif b/w starts.
The hitting streak is a fluky thing. Dimaggio easily couldve only had a 20 game hit streak or he could have actually had an 80 game hitting streak. (he got robbed 3 times in the 57th game but immedidiately followed that with hit streak of aorund 20 games)
Obviosly the better the hitter and the more at bats he gets (a .360 hitting leadoff hitter with no power has a much better chance than bonds etc) the better his chances, but its still a flukey thing.

Dimaggio streak is a big fraud, was a hit as an error in game 31 or 32

The 56 by Dimaggio will not be broken, the media pressure would be too great... Rose's 44 will probably last a very long time as well...

.400 average is also going to be tough, eveyone remember Brett's attempt to do it... the last few weeks of the season will be pressure packed.. It will take a hitter that either walks a tremendous amount of times or a hitter with an injury that misses alot of games and comes in just at the required 502 official AB's.. I think Brett fell into this category.. Was injured midway thru season and came back redhot..

30 wins in a season, would be the easiest to do, if we simply used 4 man rotations again.. the pressure and hype would probably be less with this one. i think the record is 41 by someone, maybe Jack Chesbro.. or something like that..

Ryans season single season strikeout record would probably also now require a 4 man rotation, what is that 383 or something like that.

Ricky's stolen base record is another one, that is pretty far out there.. guess we need Billy ball again to do this one..

if brett didnt have hemmoroids, he might have got there. i think ichiro can break dimmagio's streak because he does not walk very much, has great speed enabling him to beat out a couple dozen infield hits each year, and he is as good a hitter as there is in the game.

Two records I think will never be broke are Cy Young's wins and Ripkin's Iron Man.

Everything else is at least remotely possible.
