Just to be straight, I consider Parents, Nurses, Teachers, Cops, Firemen, Soldiers, etc...to be everyday hero's. What I am asking is have you ever performed a selfless act of heroism? OR Risked your life to save anothers?

I recieved an e-mail today, as I do every couple of months, from a little girl who lives in Pennsylvania. 2 years ago I was at the South Jersey shore, on the beach with some family members. Beach was packed, like usual, and it was a beautiful day, until.....

This lady started screaming that she had lost her child, and instantly every able bodied person was in the water looking for this lost young person. After about 1 min or so of frantic searching in the ocean, I came up for some air and looked around to see if the child had been located yet. It didn't appear so, and I went back under water and then I found her. She was lifeless, but I pulled her up and was quickly mobbed by ppl who scooped the child away from me and was brought to the beach.

After some CPR and lifesaving techniques the child was revived and I was thanked by the childs siblings, the mother took the child off the beach but phoned me that night, as I had given my phone number to the childs brother. Anyway, i get an e-mail from this young girl every couple of months and its a good feeling. Anyone could have found her but I did and it changed my life...

have you ever pulled someone from a burning building, or someone out who has fallen through the ice, or something similar? This thread is certainly not to brag, but an opportunity to see if there are others out there that have been lucky enough to save someone elses life..not only does it change the persons life of whom you save, but it changes the saver as well.

That would be a good feeling. Haven't had that kind of opportunity arise to this point, but would certainly do all I could if it did.

My good friend was in Puerto Banus, Spain at a stag party. He was behind this bar taking a leak cause the place (and it's restrooms) were jammed. He heard some loud splash and pulled up his jocks and ran to the noise. A guy drinking at the same place had been pissing into the sea also directly behind this bar and had stumbled and fallen over, hitting his head on a boat and falling unconcious. My friend saw him floating head down in the water dived in and pulled him out with the help of the owner of boat who had been sleeping (on the boat) but heard the thud.

They never exchanged phone numbers as the man was unconcious at taken to the hospital. This was 2 a.m and my friend flew back to the States the next day. He said he shared a 'moment' with the boat owner though that he'll never forget. A mutual understanding that their lives would never be the same. Very few people can ever say the saved another's life.

for every good parent i knew growing up, i knew another kid who had a worthless parent. i think 50/50 is a pretty good ratio of good parents/worthless parents nowadays (in the U.S., at least)...

and as far as teachers...i'd make it maybe 10%/90%...good teachers/worthless teachers.

i went to a city public school so maybe i just had bad luck, maybe suburban schools are different (i'd imagine they are to a certain extent)...

but ALL the teachers i had were worthless. i could count the good teachers i had all through school on ONE hand...out of HUNDREDS of teachers i came across.

there are 2 main causes of all the messed up kids in america....

1) bad parents
2) bad teachers/schools

so i'd hardly call most parents and teachers nowadays "heros" just my opinion.

Ididn't save anybody but I helped a guy who was hit by a car, he was riding his bike, was bleeding and everything and he gave me his phone number to call his wife, he was scared but I tryed to calmed him down, anyways, I stayed with him untill the ambulance arrived, there were hundreds of people passing with there cars and noone stoped. Funny thing is that mi wife who didn't know me at the time, saw me that day, and told me a few years later, nice coincidence!
