Without searching for it anyone know offhand how long the ball is actually in play on average in a NFL game or an MLB game? I know what it is for NFL but only have a rough guess for MLB....... good trivia question.

Very very little in a baseball game. maybe 10 mintues ?

I dont really remember what it was in Bases but I thought it was something like in a 3 hour game the ball is in play for something like 15 minutes.

In a football game the average game has the ball in play for 12 minutes out of 60 minute game.

speaking of quick games this M's game is flying by. both pitchers are basically going 1-2-3 so far.

thanks Doug, I remembered reading the numbers somewhere. I wrote a letter to reily a couple weeks ago that actually got printed in the magazine.

read somewhere that at the average major league game, they go through 47 baseballs.
