i see in so many threads how bad a day they had the day before or how bad this week has been etc and still see the next day playing 7 or more games, this is just my opinion, why dont you cut down on the number of games for a given day until at least the games turn your way ,maybe im wrong here but i just dont get playing 7 or more game unless you are on a hot streak and the game are coming easy etc. ck

You should play all the games where you percieve an advantage
value wise. How one did the day before shouldn't effect this &
if it did that might be considered superstition.

well said...

after handicapping the board, if there is only 1 play that has value...play it...

if there are 8 plays on the board that have value...play them...

if you went 6-0 yesterday, it doesn't mean anything...you didn't get any smarter...

if you went 0-5 yesterday, it doesn't mean anything either...you didn't all-of-a-sudden lose your ability...

if you know you have a long-term win expectation then you should have the courage to play as few or as many plays as you have to in any given day...

that's what separates the people who know what they're doing from those that don't.

However, I agree with CarolinaKid in one sense: If we begin to have mental issues then it is a slide downhill for certain. We cannot separate our picks from our mental state.

Sometimes a day off or cutting down significantly is a great idea. tulsa

the key is.....IF.....we cannot separate our picks from our mental state...

then, sure, cut back...take a day off...hell, find a new hobby....nothing wrong with that.

but if someone expects to win at this business long-term...they MUST be able to separate their picks from their "mental state"

otherwise, you're just going to be costing yourself profits. and this business is a grind. you need every opportunity you can get. you have to be able to take the emotion out of this to the greatest extent possible.

if you have a few thousand plays under your belt, you should know with very little doubt whether or not you know what you're doing and if you have a long-term win expectation...

if so, there is no need to fall into those beginner traps of "i need to cut back when i'm losing" or "i need to press it when i'm winning"

This thread is simular to Choptalks in somuch that after the event shouldnt matter in principle. The age old tendancy when one is losing is to either press up the stakes or bet skinnier prices and thats where the rot sets in.

I always say to people, how will you feel when the result comes through against you, were you happy that you put on the right stake at the right price, if not, act accordingly and never get that greedy man syndrome. :drink:

I see Christian agrees with me. We cannot totally eradicate our mind-state from the issue. I agree that we should take our emotion out of this to the greatest extent possible but even with his wording I see that Christian realizes that is not 100% removal!

A person should take a break not after one day of losses, but when they 'feel' their mental sharpness failing and 'feel' they are beginning to throw darts or chase a little bit. I guarantee we all do that and we all have to fight that to be successful. Unfortuantely, I am no robot.

Good luck! tulsa

Totally agree with playing as many plays that fit the bill. The pressure is on the linesmakers to make a good line so there's not too much value for sharps. Sometimes I feel the linesmaker did a good job and don't find many opportunities while others I find holes that are way off my number. I don't believe in playing a set amount of 3 or 5 picks a day. I don't know how many times I didn't feel too confident on the days card and played 5 plays anyway saying I'll probly go 3-2 or 2-3 and went going 0-5. Passing on a game you got doubts on is ok, there's many other games and many more tomorrow. Once I've passed a game I've learned not to care about the result whether I woulda been right or wrong, very big hurdle for me.

taking a break/time off/vacation/etc. etc. is natural...every job in the world gets vacation time. we should take some time off too when needed...

but, as you said, NOT because we're losing. only because we need to relax and recharge our batteries. there's a BIG difference there.

winning and losing streaks are an UNAVOIDABLE part of this business. and they have no bearing at all on how you will do LONG-TERM. just accept them and have the discipline to do your handicapping each day the same way you did it the day before, regardless of whether you went 6-0 or 0-6.
