Wow - 2Ks and a bunt out. Best stuff I have seen from Foulke since game 4 of the 2004 World Series. Looks like he is recovered from serious injuries that hobbled him last year. He may stay out there for the 9th with Papelbon waiting if he falters.

Everything Francona touches is turning to gold early this year. Very encouraging outing by Foulke. Pitching looks great so far.

Tito essentially had the JV in there today and pulled out a nice win. Wakefield was outstanding, especially striking out the side with two on. So far, good week to be a Sox fan.

How can you not love Wakefield - the Sox need to take care of this guy for life for all the ways he's contributed over the last 10? years.
Yes, Foulke was even putting the fastball where he wanted to put it, couldnt do that at all last year, but I'll watch him a couple more times before I'm sold. Glad they have Papelbon either way.
Hate to get all negative hrer, but worried about Gonzalez' bat, he has the look and feel of a rally killer, sorry.

I had this conversation with someone over the weekend. I think we retire way too many numbers in sports these days (Carlton Fisk, for example), but Wake is deserving of the honor. The guy has done whatever the team has asked him to do--start, relieve--whatever. And as far as I'm concerned, he was the MVP of the '04 ALCS against the Yankees. His move to give up his Game 4 start to eat up innings in Game 3 was as critical as the Dave Roberts steal to the Sox winning that series. It was a complete injustice that he gave up that Boone HR the year before and nobody was happier than me (except probably him) that he got to exact some revenge on the Yankees.

The Sox have had some great leaders over the years--and Vartiek is still a good one now--but nobody leads by example better than Tim Wakefield. Nobody.
