Thought I'd ask the regulars who normally wager on MLB what seems to be the difference so far this year from year's past. I follow baseball, primarily a Giants homer, and only make rare plays until the playoffs, but I am getting a sense from the forums that the first week might have been a bit tough so far. Maybe if we talk about it, some common themes may come up that guys have noticed that would help benefit everyone here. Feel free to share your thoughts. I can chime in on the Giants most anytime.

OMT...how many games do you catch a year at Pac Bell? I have season tickets and would love to hook up with you to catch a game sometime.

Actually I don't get out to the park that much. About 80-90% of the games are shown on either Fox Sports Bay Area or KTVU locally. Get a better pitching perspective from TV. Wouldn't mind getting together however if you wish. I thought you were from Southern California. Wouldn't want you to make a special trip on my behalf.

i think bettors get so agravated losing due to relief pitching..

its looks like the way to go if you are relying on the pitcher you backed , is to just play 5 inning bets...

Actually OMT, I am closer to SF than LA these days. It has made making good use of my Clippers tickets very difficult. I have sold more of them than I have used this year. I will start a new thread or email you about the SF games so I don't hijack your thread.

Back on topic...I think guys are getting buried eating chalk backing big name starters early in the season. Bullpens always play a big role all season, but even more so in the first month while starters build their stamina.

I don't see much difference from this year to any other personally.

I would like to think that this week is just a blip on the on the radar.

The easiest way to turn a bad run into a bad season is to change the way you do things this early in the season without a big enough sample to confirm that you need to change what you are doing.

The bottem line is its only 1 week. Ask me again a month from now I will be able to give you an informative answer.

OMT...don't know if you've seen much of him but what are your perceptions of JEREMY ACCARDO. Stats aren't great so far on the year, just curious as to what you think of watching him the end of last year and beginning of this.

I think what is happening is for the most part favorites are dominating and most MLB wise guys find value in the underdog so its beena tough week for most. and a few of the good value favorites lost due to bull pen explosions as mentioned above.

The first two days favs were cashing at an 80+% clip. Law of averages are bound to catch up to that which what has been happening.

I have made a killing on the A's 5 inning lines the last 2 years

they always seemed to have a lead for their pitches going into the 6th or 7th, then the relief pitches gave the game away

As and A's fan, it killed me to see it happen time and time again. But at least i made money after this ongoing travesty!

OMT you Know what the difference is. Bucsfan is gone, for one thing.

Dont even know how he is doing as i dont go across the street.

The rest of the Cappers that most follow are chopping or loseing. Myself i had a nice week in the bases, got within ONE game of haveing a SUPER week.
I hate Chalks.

anyone know bucsfan record so far this year?

im new to the board, but i heard he did well in years past. i guess he left for another board for some $$$ and cant post plays here

that sucks, but i understand where he is coming from

One week means very little....I'm down about 5 units to start the year...The one thing that bothers me some is knowing someone else might be losing money on account of something I say.

One thing is for sure, there's an incredible amount of expectation.

I think everyone should proceed with caution and not get too excited about being down a couple games, there's 156 games left.

Speaking of bullpens I had a total go down in flames today thanks to the A's pen .

He was up 6+ units heading into today's games and I think he had a small profit today with open plays on the Cubs tonight.

Last year Accardo was pretty sharp but green. This year so far, the Giants relievers are struggling as a unit including Accardo. They should get better as the season progresses. The starters have pitched decently for the most part, although Schmidt has yet to live up to expectations and Lowry will be on the DL for awhile. Not sure yet who will take his spot in the rotation.

Jman:

Why would you let it bother you? You don't control their money and I don't see you telling anybody what to do. All you are doing is posting your plays and what you are doing. There is nothing wrong with that no matter how good or bad you do.

Let the season come to you...with so much expectation down in the bases forum, I think a few guys may be forcing some plays.

5 units down, 10 units down is nothing, anyone following has to make a plan and be willing to stick it out....I've never been able to follow anyone personally , what I will do is take a long look when I see good information that will back up a certain play.

On the flipside, it could be a good time to hop aboard, since a few guys have started slow.
