so, when someone says they are wagering "one unit" does that mean theyre betting one unit, or betting enough to win one unit...

does that question make sense?

what i mean is...say you have yankees ML -110 for one unit.

are you wagering $100, or $110 to win an even one unit ?? (or whatever a 'unit' is to you)

To WIN one unit or to WAGER one unit on the dog.

EG...

team A -140
team B +130

ONE unit on A would be 140-100
ONE unit on B would be 100-130

Incorrect

A -110 one unit play would be 110/100............on a -170 favorite it would be 170/100.

This is how the VERY VERY vast majority do this.

A dog play ONE unit on +170 would be 100/170.

Hope this clears this up.

I think most of the euro soccer guys bet to risk one unit on a favorite, and bet one unit on dogs. Most americans tend to risk one unit on a dog and when betting favorites bet enough to win one unit.

Keep in mind that this is not the only way to do it - just the standard way that most do it and the way almost all contests are graded. In sports other than baeball I almost always bet to win 1 unit whether its a dog or a fave. Hope this helps.
